"This book explores how news media construct social issues and events and thereby convey certain perceptions within the scope of framing theory. By operationalizing media framing as a process of interpretation through defining problem, diagnosing causes, making moral judgments and suggesting solutions, the book proposes a systematic and transparent approach to images in news discourse. Based on a frame analysis, it examines how German news media framed a list of China-related issues and events, and thereby conveyed particular beliefs and opinions on this country. Moreover, it investigates whether there were dominant patterns of interpretation and the extent to which diverse views were evident by comparing two major daily newspapers with opposite political orientations - the FAZ and the taz.
Motivated by the relationship between image and reality, the book explores image formation and persistence from media construction of meaning and human cognitive complexity in perceiving others. Media select certain issues and events and then interpret them from particular perspectives. A variety of professional and non-professional factors behind news making may result in biased representations. In addition, from a social psychological perspective, inaccurate perceptions of foreign cultures may arise from categorical thinking, biased processing of stimulus information, intergroup conflicts of interest and in-group favoritism.
Accordingly, whether media coverage deviates from reality is not the main concern of this book; instead, it emphasizes the underlying logics upon which the conclusions and judgments were drawn. It therefore contributes to a rational understanding of Western discourse and holds practical implications for both Chinese public diplomacy and a more constructive role of news media in promoting the understanding of others."

Setelah pemerintahan Orde Baru tumbang pemberitaan mengenai otonomi daerah mekar
bermunculan, media massa yang pada zaman Orde Baru jarang memberitakan mengenai isu
otonomi daerah berubah haluan menjadi gadrung memberitakan isu otonomi daerah, berbagai
berita bermunculan ada yang positif dan ada yang negatif, bermacam pertarungan wacana
mewarnai isu otonomi daerah di media massa.
Penelitian ini bermula dari rasa ingin tahu yang mendalam mengenai berbagai berita
tentang isu otonomi daerah yang muncul di media massa dan bagaimana media massa
melakukan konstruksi realitas terhadap isu otonomi daerah , selama ini penelitian mengenai isu
otonomi daerah banyak dilakukan oleh para ilmuwan yang berlatar belakang ilmu politik, ilmu
pemerintahan, ilmu administrasi negara, dan ilmu hukum, penelitian yang dilakukan oleh para
ilmuwan di atas lebih banyak bicara mengenai penerapan kebijakan otonomi daerah. Penelitian
mengenai isu otonomi daerah menggunakan perspektif ilmu komunikasi masih jarang bahkan
bisa dibilang langka, padahal peran media massa menurut Severin-Tankard (2007:15), adalah
membentuk opini publik. Para penganut mazhab konstruksionisme seperti Tuchman (1978),
Fisman (1980), dan Shoemaker (1996), melihat bahwa berita yang disiarkan oleh media massa
dapat membuat masyarakat mempunyai suatu sudut pandang dan mengkonstruksikan suatu
realitas suatu isu dalam masyarakat tak terkecuali isu otonomi daerah.
Penelitian dalam disertasi ini menggunakan perspektif interpretif. Perspektif ini dipilih
karena menurut Neuman (2006) teori konstruksi sosial merupakan ranah dalam perspektif
interpretif, untuk membedah teks dalam penelitian ini menggunakan analisa teks framing,
model yang digunakan adalah framing Robert N Entman. Framing model Entman dipilih karena
dalam konsep Entman framing dapat dipakai untuk menggambarkan proses seleksi suatu isu,
serta menonjolkan beberapa aspek tertentu dari suatu realitas oleh media. Empat elemen
framing model Entman adalah pertama Define Problem merupakan bingkai utama atau master
frame, kedua Diagnose Causes dalam elemen kedua ini yang menjadi titik berat adalah siapa
aktor utama dalam suatu kejadian atau peristiwa, ketiga Make Moral Judgement adalah elemen
yang digunakan untuk melakukan pembenaran dengan memberikan berbagai argumentasi pada
pedefinisian masalah yang sudah dibuat, empat Treatment Recommendation adalah elemen yang digunakan untuk melihat apa yang sebenarnya dikehendaki oleh wartawan, bagaimana cara yang
akan dipilih untuk menyelesaikan suatu masalah.
Dalam disertasi ini ada 3 media yang diteliti yaitu harian Kompas, harian Jurnal Nasional,
harian Kedaulatan Rakyat. Dipilihlah tiga surat kabar dengan orientasi yang berbeda, yaitu
pertama surat kabar Kompas sebagai surat kabar harian terkemuka nasional dengan tiras yang
besar, kedua surat kabar Jurnal Nasional sebagai surat kabar yang mempunyai kedekatan sejarah
dengan Partai Demokrat, ketiga surat kabar Kedaulatan Rakyat sebagai surat kabar daerah yang
masih survive dan masih leading sampai saat ini.
Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan dalam level mikro yaitu ada perbedaan frame
pemberitaan harian Kompas, harian Jurnal Nasional dan harian Kedaulatan Rakyat mengenai
Isu Otonomi Daerah. Pada analisis pada level meso media terlihat faktor kepemilikan dan modal
masih cukup kuat dalam mempengaruhi frame media yang diteliti.
Analisis level makro dapat dibagi menjadi dua. Pada harian Jurnal Nasional analisa yang
lebih tepat adalah menggunakan pendekatan analisis instrumentalis atau strukturalis daripada
strukturasi karena pada harian Jurnal Nasional struktur organisasi media terlihat mengikat erat
human agent. Tidak terlalu cukup ruang bagi agen melakukan interplay terhadap struktur. Lain
halnya dengan harian Kompas dan harian Kedaulatan Rakyat, yang dapat dibedah dengan
analisis strukturasi.
Dalam proses strukturasi dari tiga media yang diteliti, terlihat dua media yaitu harian
Kompas dan harian Kedaulatan Rakyat mampu merubah struktur dari sentralistik ke
desentralistik untuk isu Pemilihan Kepala Daerah Langsung dan Keistimewaan Yogyakarta,
meskipun harus diakui bahwa media bukan satu-satunya faktor yang diterminan dalam
perubahan struktur tersebut. Namun tidak dapat dipungkiri bahwa isi dari teks media dalam dua
isu tersebut memberikan kontribusi kepada eskalasi tekanan atau adanya akumulasi-akumulasi
tekanan terhadap penguasa;

ABSTRACT
After the New Order government fell, news on regional autonomy appeared everywhere.
Mass media which rarely reported regional autonomy issues during the New Order now reported
the issues all the time. Various news emerged, some positive and others negative. A battle of
discourse of regional autonomy issues appeared in the mass media .
This research was started by curiosity on various news on regional autonomy in mass
media and how mass media constructs the reality of regional autonomy issues. Until now,
researches on regional autonomy issues are mostly performed by researchers from political
science, government science, public administration, and legal science. Studies by researchers
from the fields above mostly discuss the implementation of regional autonomy policy. Studies on
regional autonomy issue using communication science perspective are still rare, while the role of
mass media according to Severin-Tankard (2007:15) is actually to form public opinions.
Observers of constructionism such as Tuchman (1978), Fisman (1980), and Shoemaker (1996)
think that news broadcasted by mass media can make people have a certain point of view and
construct a reality of an issue in the society, including regional autonomy issues.
The research in this dissertation used interpretive perspective. This perspective was
selected because according to Neuman (2006) social construction theory is a field in interpretive
perspective. To dissect texts, this study used framing text analysis. The model used was Robert N
Entman's framing. Entman's model of framing was selected because in Entman's concept framing
can be used to describe the selection process of an issue and emphasize certain aspects of a
reality by the media. Four elements of Entman's model of framing are first, Define Problem
which is the master frame, second, Diagnose Causes in the second element the emphasize is who
is the main actors in an event, third, Make Moral Judgment is an element used to make
justification by giving various argumentation in the definitions of the problems which have been
made, fourth, Treatment Recommendation is an element used to see what reporters want, what
method will be chosen to solve a problem.
In this dissertation, there are 3 media which were studied, i.e. Kompas newspaper, Jurnal
Nasional newspaper, Kedaulatan Rakyat newspaper. The three newspapers selected have
different orientations, i.e. first, Kompas as a famous national newspaper with huge readership second Jurnal Nasional as a newspaper with a history with the Democratic Party, third
Kedaulatan Rakyat as a local news paper which still survive and leads to this day.
The result of this study showed that at micro level there was frame difference in the
reporting of Kompas, Jurnal Nasional and Kedaulatan Rakyat on Regional Autonomy Issues.
Analysis at meso level showed that ownership and capital factors were still rather strong in
influencing the frames of the studied media.
Analysis at macro level could be divided into two. In Jurnal Nasional, more accurate
analysis used instrumentalist or structuralist analysis approach rather that structuration because
in Jurnal Nasional the structure of media organization seemed to tightly bind human agents.
Theer wasn't enough space for agents to perform interplay on the structure. Meanwhile, Kompas
and Kedaulatan Rakyat could be dissected by structuration analysis.
In the structuration process of the three media, two media, Kompas and Kedaulatan
Rakyat, were able to change the structure from centralistic to decentralistic for Direct Regional
Head Election and the Special Region Status of Yogyakarta, although the author admits that the
media isn't the only determinant factor in changing the structure. However, it's undeniable that
the content of media texts in those two issues contributed to the escalation of pressure or

"Tesis ini membahas komunikasi politik memanfaatkan saluran media sosial yang dilakukan oleh akun @Triomacan2000 dan akun @Jasmev20. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan bagaimana akun Twitter @Triomacan2000 dan @Jasmev20 melakukan framing terhadap aktor politik, yaitu Jokowi-Ahok selama Pilkada DKI Jakarta 2012 serta interaksi frame dari kedua akun tersebut. Penelitian yang bersifat kualitatif dan deskriptif ini menggunakan metode analisis framing dari Gamson dan Modigliani. Selain itu digunakan konsep komunikasi politik dan the sympathic model sebagai strategi komunikasi politik. Hasil penelitian memaparkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan frame antara akun @Triomacan2000 dan @Jasmev20 dalam membahas isu tentang Jokowi-Ahok. Frame yang ditampilkan oleh akun @Triomacan2000 tentang Jokowi Ahok antara lain: Jokowi-Ahok sebagai pelaku korupsi, misi SARA di balik simbol kampanye, pencitraan palsu Jokowi, serta sejumlah elit politik di belakang Jokowi-Ahok. Sedangkan frame yang dihadirkan oleh @Jasmev20 terdiri dari: Jokowi-Ahok sebagai tokoh anti korupsi, Jokowi-Ahok sebagai tokoh pluralis, dan Jokowi sebagai sosok yang sederhana. Interaksi frame terbentuk karena terdapat interplay antara frame @Triomacan2000 dan @Jasmev20 dimana salah satu pihak memposisikan diri sebagai pihak yang mengkritisi dan pihak lain yang berperan mengcounter isu.

The focus of this study is political communication using social media which is utilized by @Triomacan2000 dan @Jasmev20. The Purpose of this thesis is to analyze the framing of political figures Jokowi-Ahok by @Triomacan2000 and @Jasmev20 during the 2012 Jakarta Governor election and describe frame interaction between both accounts. This qualitative and descriptive research use Gamson and Modigliani framing analysis method to identify the frame formed. This research also use political communication concept and the sympathic model as political communication strategy. The research result shows frame difference formed by twitter account @Triomacan2000 and @Jasmev20 regarding Jokowi-Ahok issues. The frame formed by @Triomacan200o regarding Jokowi-Ahok are about corruption issues, Racist issues behind their campaign symbol, Jokowi's false image, and the political elite who support Jokowi-ahok in the election. The frame formed by @jasmev20 shows Jokowi-Ahok as figures that support anti-corruption and support pluralism. Jokowi is also presented as a humble person. Frame interaction is formed because of frame interplay between @Triomacan200 and @Jasmec20. @Triomacan2000 positioned itlsef as a critic, while @Jasmev20 positioned itself as issues addresser.

"Tesis ini membahas tentang framing citra positif gamers dalam pemberitaan maupun artikel terkait gamers pada media online kompas.com. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan analisis framing model Zhongdang Pan dan Kosicki. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kompas.com terkesan memframing citra positif pada gamers untuk mengikuti selera pasar saat ini. Framing citra positif yang berfokus pada penghasilan dan e-sport menunjukan bahwa kompas.com masih tunduk pada kepentingan kompas grup yang \memiliki kepentingan dengan acara bertemakan gamers.

This thesis discusses Positif Image framing trough news and articles related to gamers in online media kompas.com. This study used a qualitative research method with the Zhongdang Pan and Kosicki framing analysis model. The results of this study indicate that kompas.com seems to frame a positive image of gamers to follow current market tastes. Positive image framing that focuses on income and e-sports shows that kompas.com is still subject to the Kompas Group which has an interest in gamers-themed news."

"ABSTRAK
Pilkada DKI Jakarta menjadi momentum kemunculan media massa baru. Tulisan ini membahas mengenai pembentukam ujaran kebencian yang dilakukan oleh media massa yang bersifat hyperpartisan. Media hyperpartisan secara masif memproduksi berita dan opini menyangkut calon gubernur DKI Jakarta. Media hyperpartisan tersebut terbagi dalam dua kubu, yaitu kubu pemerintah dan non-pemerintah. Tulisan-tulisan yang diproduksi pada media tersebut memiliki unsur ujaran kebencian yang bertujuan untuk memprovokasi masyarakat. Media hyperpartisan melakukan upaya konstruksi realitas tentang makna subjektif untuk saling membenci satu sama lain dengan menggunakan konten-konten berisi hate speech. Terdapat dua media hyperpartisan yang cukup berpengaruh dalam pembentukan konstruksi realitas media yaitu seword.com dan portal-islam.id. Konten yang diproduksi pada media tersebut akan dilihat melalui analisis framing oleh Robert Entmant. Analisis tersebut untuk membuktikan bahwa konten media tersebut memiliki unsur partisan dan frasa ujaran kebencian. Tulisan ini juga akan membuktikan bahwa proses konstruksi realitas media pada kedua media massa hyperpartisan seword.com dan portal-islam.id menggunakan unsur hate speech. Sehingga, dapat diketahui bahwa media hyperpartisan ini merupakan sebuah instrumen yang memanfaatkan situasi polaris pada Pilkada DKI Jakarta, sebagai realitas objektif lalu didistribusi pada teks yang bersifat subjektif. Hal tersebut bertujuan untuk menanamkan nilai-nilai yang menjadi tujuan dari media tersebut.

ABSTRACT
Jakarta rsquo s Government Election became the momentum of the emergence of new mass media. This paper discusses hate speech forming by hyper partisan mass media. Hyper partisan media massively produce news and opinion around the governor candidates of DKI Jakarta. These hyper partisan media are divided into two sides, the government side and the anti government side. The articles that are produced on those media have elements of hate speech that aims to provoke society. Hyper partisan media try to construct the reality of subjective meaning on hating each other by using hate speech content. There are two hyper partisan media that is quite influential in the forming of media reality construction seword.com and portal islam.id. Contents that are produced by those media were analyzed with Robert Entmant rsquo s framing. This analysis aims to prove that the content does have partisan elements and hate speech phrases. This paper will also prove that the construction of reality in these hyper partisan media, seword.com and portal islam.id, using hate speech. Therefore, it can be seen that these hyper partisan media are instrument that utilizes the polarized situation on DKI Jakarta election, as an objective reality that is distributed as a subjective text. The purpose is to instill values meant by the media."

Pada sisi lain, brand sebagai aset yang paling berharga bagi setiap perusahaan, menggunakan social media influencers untuk dapat menarik partisipasi dari konsumen brand itu sendiri sehingga dapat meningkatkan kepercayaan dan keyakinan konsumen dalam memfasilitasi keputusan mereka dalam pembelian. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penggunaan social media influencers dalam membangun brand image dan brand awareness. Menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif, riset berbasis studi pustaka (literature review) ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat beberapa cara untuk membangun brand image dan brand awareness melalui social media influencers. Pertama melalui Influencer Identification dan Measurement. Dalam tahap ini, brand akan memilih social media influencers yang tidak hanya memiliki pengaruh yang kuat, melainkan sesuai dengan persona yang ingin brand tersebut tampilkan. Kedua, melalui interaksi Social Media Influencers dengan khalayak. Interaksi oleh social media influencer dilakukan dengan membuat konten yang dapat menarik minat publik dengan menyesuaikan konsep dengan gaya berkomunikasi dan juga keahlian social media influencer tersebut.

Social Media Influencers have become an important marketing communication tool because they offer engagement with many potential buyers in a short period at a lower cost than traditional advertising (Evans et al, 2017 in Weismueller et al, 2020). Apart from that,brand as the most valuable asset for every company, uses social media influencers to attract participation and engagement from consumers to increase consumer trust and confidence in facilitating their purchase decisions. This study aims to analyze the usage of social media influencers to build brand image and brand awareness. Using a qualitative approach, this literature review-based research reveals several ways to build brand image and brand awareness through social media influencers. Firstly, by Influencer Identification and Measurement. At this stage, the brand will choose the social media influencers that have a strong influence and fit with the persona that the brand wants to show. Secondly, by the interaction between social media influencers and their audience. Interaction with the audience will be attractive by adjusting the concept with the social media influencer’s communication expertise."

"Semiotika adalah disiplin ilmu yang mengkaji makna tanda. Iklan terkait erat dengan semiotika. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan semiotika, kita dapat mengetahui tanda-tanda yang terdapat pada sebuah iklan, yang digunakan untuk memperlihatkan kekuatan produk yang pada akhirnya diharapkan dapat mempengaruhi konsumen untuk membelinya. Di dalam setiap iklan pasti terdapat sebuah pesan. Kesuksesan sebuah produk tidak terlepas dari konsep iklannya yang menyiratkan pesan di dalamnya. Samsung GALAXY S III merupakan salah satu produk yang penjualannya sukses di Jerman. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui makna-makna apa yang terkandung pada iklan Samsung GALAXY S III versi bahasa Jerman di media televisi, serta bagaimana cara penyampaian pesan-pesan dalam iklan tersebut.
Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan analisis semiotika. Sebagai penelitian deskriptif, penelitian ini hanya memaparkan situasi atau wacana, tidak menguji hipotesis atau membuat prediksi. Data dalam penelitian ini adalah data kualitatif yang kemudian diinterpretasikan dengan landasan teori semiotika dan semantik. Melalui pendekatan semiotika, saya akan berusaha menggali nilai-nilai dan makna dari tanda yang ada dalam iklan telepon genggam Samsung GALAXY S III versi bahasa jerman di media televisi.

Semiotics is an analytical method to assess signs. Advertising is closely associated with semiotics. By using this approach, we can find out signs in advertising, that used to show the power of products which is expected to affect the consumer to buy it. In every advertising there is definitely a message. The success of a product can?t be separated from the concept of the advertising that implies a message in it. Samsung GALAXY S III is one of the products that are sold successfully in Germany. The purpose of this research is to know the meanings of what is contained on the Samsung GALAXY S III advertisement (German version) in television media, as well as how to go about delivering messages in advertising.
The research method that I used is descriptive qualitative research approach to the analysis of semiotics. As descriptive research, this study only exposes a situation or a discourse, not testing the hypothesis or make predictions. Data in this study is qualitative data which is then interpreted by a foundation theory of semiotics and semantics. Through our approach to semiotics, I will try to dig up the values and the meaning of the sign in advertising mobile phones Samsung GALAXY S III (German version) in television media."
