"This article identifies haul, an annual commemoration of the death of charismatic figures, in Indonesia as political. The politicization of haul has been accompanied by a proliferation of narratives promoting the history of Hadhrami diaspora while strengthening the relationship between local Hadhramis and the local statesmen. This qualitative research examines the use of haul in Pontianak to commemorate selected syarif aristocrats. Pontianak, founded in the mid-eighteenth century by a syarif statesman, has a long-standing Hadhrami memory. Data for this study were collected through literature review, interviews, observation, and archival research related to Kadriah Sultanate’s haul events. The findings suggest that haul reshapes memories of the Kadriah Sultanate and Hadhrami identity for pragmatic purposes in local politics. By examining this case study of a commemorative religious event in the non-Arab world, it is shown that the local Arab sultanate redefines Hadhrami ethnic identity as nationalist, locally rooted, and heroic. Public haul festivals thus become effective tools for syarif politicians to exert influence in the religious and political spheres."

"Solidarity is an important matter for the Indonesian nation with its diversity. This study reveals the values of solidarity embedded in the motifs of Indonesian batik motifs. This study aims at enriching knowledge about Indonesian batik and raising awareness about the importance of national solidarity. This descriptive qualitative research has found 29 batik motifs that conserve noble values of solidarity, such as Kotak Nan Rancak, Sekar Jagad, Kaledo, Kuda Kupang, and Tambal Ukir. The values of solidarity embedded in the batik motifs are among others diversity, helping each other, togetherness, tolerance, acculturation, harmony, unity, brotherhood, and harmony in community life. Understanding and actualization of these values will strengthen the existence of the Republic of Indonesia."

"Upaya pengembangan pembelajaran menulis dalam bahasa Inggris di Indonesia tidak dapat dipisahkan dari peran beragam hasil penelitian kualitatif yang dilakukan oleh guru maupun paraktisi dalam bidang ini. Penelitian kualitatif yang dilakukan tersebut lazimnya ditujukan untuk mengeksplorasi beragam problematika maupun solusi atas permasalahan dalam kegiatan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini ditujukan untuk menguji peran dan kontribusi penelitian kualitatif dalam bidang pembelajaran bahasa Inggris di Indonesiakhususnya dalam pembelajaran menulis yang selama ini ditengarai masih menghadapi banyak tantangan. Hasil analisis menunjukan bahwa penelitian kualitatif sangat tepat diterapkan dalam konteks pembelajaran bahasa Ineeris di Indonesia karena mampu mengekplorasi, menggambarkan, menawarkan solusi atas beragam permasalahan yang ada serta berperan dalam mengembangkan kegiatan pembelajaran bahasa Ingggris khususnya pada keterampilan menulis."
