"Saat organisasi-organisasi berkembang dan bertumbuh, basis data mereka menghadapi peningkatan permintaan untuk skalabilitas, elastisitas, dan kinerja. Sistem Manajemen Basis Data Relasional (RDBMS) tradisional, seperti PostgreSQL, sering kali menghadapi tantangan jika terjadi peningkatan penggunaan secara drastis. Basis data NewSQL, basis data \textit{SQL-Like} yang bisa didistribusi secara cloud, seperti CockroachDB muncul sebagai alternatif yang menjanjikan, menggabungkan skalabilitas dan ketahanan sistem NoSQL dengan jaminan ACID seperti RDBMS tradisional. Namun, migrasi ke teknologi basis data baru membawa risiko bagi organisasi besar, sehingga kompatibilitas, kemudahan integrasi, dan minimnya gangguan menjadi faktor yang sangat penting.
Penelitian ini mengevaluasi kinerja CockroachDB dan PostgreSQL melalui eksperimen terkontrol dalam lingkungan Kubernetes. Metode pengukuran utama seperti pemanfaatan sumber daya (Resource Utilization) dan Query Time dianalisis dalam konfigurasi node tunggal dan multi-node untuk mengevaluasi responsivitas dan skalabilitas. Hasil penelitian ini memberikan wawasan tentang pertukaran manfaat dan potensi peningkatan kinerja yang terkait dengan adopsi CockroachDB, terutama untuk sistem yang membutuhkan keandalan dan skalabilitas tinggi, seperti sistem informasi akademik (SIAK). Dengan membagikan program dan hasilnya secara terbuka, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendukung eksplorasi lebih lanjut tentang kemampuan CockroachDB dan penerapannya dalam berbagai konteks operasional.

As organizations expand, their databases face increasing demands for scalability, elasticity, and performance. Traditional Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS), such as PostgreSQL, often encounter challenges in handling spikes in usage. NewSQL databases, a family of SQL-Like Cloud-Distributable databases, like CockroachDB emerge as promising alternatives, blending the scalability and resilience of NoSQL systems with the ACID guarantees and familiarity of traditional RDBMS. However, transitioning to new database technologies poses risks for large organizations, emphasizing the importance of compatibility, ease of integration, and minimized disruption.
This study evaluates the comparative performance of CockroachDB and PostgreSQL through controlled experiments within a Kubernetes environment. Key metrics, including resource utilization and query performance, are analyzed across single-node and multi-node configurations to assess responsiveness and scalability. The results provide insights into the trade-offs and potential performance gains associated with adopting CockroachDB, particularly for systems requiring high reliability and scalability, such as Academic Information Systems. By open-sourcing the test scripts and results, this research aims to contribute to the broader exploration of CockroachDB’s capabilities and its applicability in diverse operational contexts.
