"This book guides readers (astronomers, physicists, and university students) through central questions of Practical Cosmology, a term used by the late Allan Sandage to denote the modern scientific endeavor to find the cosmological model best describing the universe of galaxies, its geometry, size, age, and matter composition. The authors draw on their personal experience in astrophysics and cosmology to explain key concepts of cosmology, both observational and theoretical, and to highlight several items which give cosmology its special character. These highlighted items are, Ideosyncratic featu. "

"This volume covers concepts such as life?s origin, hypothesis of Panspermia and of life possibility in the Cosmos. The topic of extraterrestrial life is currently ?hot? and the object of several congresses and conferences. While the diversity of ?normal? biota is well known, life on the edge of the extremophiles is more limited and less distributed. Other subjects discussed are astrobiology with the frozen worlds of mars, Europa and titan where extant or extinct microbial life may exist in subsurface oceans, conditions on icy mars with its saline, alkaline, and liquid water which has been recently discovered, chances of habitable Earth-like [or the terrestrial analogues] exoplanets, and SETI?s search for extraterrestrial Intelligence."

"A major outstanding problem in physics is understanding the nature of the dark energy that is driving the accelerating expansion of the Universe. This thesis makes a significant contribution by demonstrating, for the first time, using state-of-the-art computer simulations, that the interpretation of future galaxy survey measurements is far more subtle than is widely assumed, and that a major revision to our models of these effects is urgently needed. The work contained in the thesis was used by the WiggleZ dark energy survey to measure the growth rate of cosmic structure in 2011 and had a direct impact on the design of the surveys to be conducted by the European Space Agency's Euclid mission, a 650 million euro project to measure dark energy."

"In this book the editors and contributing authors review its remarkable history, physical state of the star and its ejecta, and its continuing instability. Chapters also include its relation to other massive, unstable stars, the massive star progenitors of supernovae, and the "first" stars in the universe."

"The aim of this symposium was to bring together these two groups to exchange ideas and new results on the many evolutionary aspects of and open issues concerning dwarf galaxies. The main topics addressed include, the birth of dwarf galaxies: theoretical concepts and observable relics across wavelengths and time, the morphological, structural and chemical evolution of dwarf galaxies, possible evolutionary connections between early-type and late-type dwarfs, the star formation history of dwarf galaxies and its dependence on intrinsic and environmental properties, the origin and implications of starburst activity in dwarf galaxies, the fate of dwarfish systems born out of tidally ejected matter in galaxy collisions."

ABSTRAKIn Northern Thailand, a game that builds upon an uncanny cooperation between human beings and rhinoceros beetles xylotrupes Gideon has developed at a high level of refinement and institutionalization. Beetle fighting is even being widely presented as a marker of the local identity and a local ecological wisdom. In this paper, I will show how it is not so much the coleoptera that symbolize a harmonious connection built by human populations with their natural environment, but rather a question of what happens in the intimate relationship between human beings and insects. Following the way players build on the great alterity between them and the insects, this article will address how the technical and conceptual handling of the beetles shapes pragmatically an original cosmology. It will pay specific attention to the ways players try to connect with their coleopteran by projecting human traits on them and adopting their communication mode. Through these, we can examine how beetles force humans to reflect on their engagement in the world, up to the point where it brings this game onto the stage of political ecology."

This paper discusses the cultural landscape associated with Hindu cosmology at the Liangan Site. The Liangan site is located at the foot of Mount Sindoro and has a Hindu background. One of the archaeological studies in looking at archaeological sites in the Liangan area is the study of settlement archeology, particularly through an archaeological approach to cultural landscapes. The purpose of this research is to reconstruct human activities through the cultural landscape and associated with Hindu cosmology in the Liangan Site. The method used is descriptive analysis. Based on the research results, the Liangan Site can be divided into four areas and has natural landscape spaces in the form of highlands that were utilized and adapted to the needs of the Liangan people in the past. You do this by forming terraces that are in between or terrace walls which are hardened with stone blocks which are commonly called talud. Also, it is seen that there is a division of cosmological concepts in the area including the yard and the area outside the Liangan Site yard.Key words: Liangan site, settlement, cultural landscape, Hindu cosmology, talud, grounds.

"Paolo Ulivi and David Harland provide in Robotic exploration of the solar system a detailed history of unmanned missions of exploration of our solar system. The subject is treated from an engineering and scientific standpoint. Technical descriptions of the spacecraft, of their mission designs and of instrumentations are provided. Scientific results are discussed in considerable depth, together with details of mission management.
The project will deliver four volumes totaling over 2,000 pages that will provide comprehensive coverage of the topic with thousands of references to the professional literature that should make it the 'first port of call' for people seeking information on the topic. The books will cover missions from the 1950s until the present day, and some of the latest missions and their results will appear in a popular science book for the first time."

"This book presents recent progress on uniformly hyperbolic attractors in dynamical systems from a physical rather than mathematical perspective (e.g. the Plykin attractor, the Smale – Williams solenoid). The structurally stable attractors manifest strong stochastic properties, but are insensitive to variation of functions and parameters in the dynamical systems. Based on these characteristics of hyperbolic chaos, this monograph shows how to find hyperbolic chaotic attractors in physical systems and how to design a physical systems that possess hyperbolic chaos.
