"Penelitian ini berusaha menginvestigasi fenomena code switching yang dilakukan oleh penutur asli bahasa Korea dan mahasiswa program studi Korea di FIB UI. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian menunjukan bahwa code switching dalam bahasa Korea mengkonstruksi hirarki sosial dan memberikan pengaruh kepada mitra tutur. Penelitian ini didasarkan pada observasi code switching pada situasi tertentu dengan melihat tuturan objek penelitian dan situasi yang dibuat sedemikian rupa dalam bahasa Korea. Penelitian ini turut menunjukan bahwa bahasa tidak hanya alat untuk berkomunikasi tetapi juga untuk mencerminkan sebuah kebudayaan. Lebih jauh, penelitian ini membuktikan bahwa code switching yang dilakukan oleh penutur Indonesia yang berbicara bahasa Korea menyimpulkan bahwa bahasa merupakan sarana untuk bersosialisasi. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa mahasiswa Indonesia yang mengambil program studi bahasa dan kebudayaan Korea melakukan code switching dalam bahasa Korea sehingga mereka dapat meningkatkan solidaritas kepada mitra tutur yang merupakan orang Korea asli. Hal ini dilakukan karena mereka berusaha untuk merasa lebih dekat dengan penutur Korea asli. Bahasa Korea dapat digunakan untuk mengidentifikasi derajat otoritas penuturnya sehingga mahasiswa program studi Korea tersebut memperoleh pengetahuan hirarki sosial di dalamnya.

This paper demonstrates the functions of code switching which took place in FIB UI between Korean natives and Korean Language and Culture course students. The data discussed here suggests that code switching for Korean language, in this setting, constructs the social hierarchies and accommodates the addressee. This paper uses the situation-related code switching theory to examine the participants’ utterances and the particular situations in which the use of Korean language is identified. The paper also shows that language is not only a tool for communication but also conveys a culture. Moreover, it demonstrates how the interlocutors’ code switching from Indonesian to Korean language serves as a socializing tool. The result of this analysis is that many Korean Language and Culture course students, as the Indonesian natives, do the code switching to Korean language, so they can improve close solidarity with the addressees, who are the Korean natives. They can also accommodate these addressees, so they can feel comfortable talking with them. Korean language is properly used to invoke figures of authority, so the Korean Language and Culture course students can get the social hierarchies. "
