"Phonetically Based Phonology is centered around the hypothesis that phonologies are determined by phonetic principles; that is, phonetic patterns involving ease of articulation and perception are expressed linguistically as grammatical constraints. This book brings together a team of leading scholars to provide wide-ranging study of phonetically based phonology. It investigates the role of phonetics in many phonological phenomena, such as assimilation, vowel reduction, vowel harmony, syllable weight, contour tone distribution, metathesis, lenition, sonority sequencing, and the Obligatory Contour Principle (OCP), exploring in particular the phonetic bases of phonological markedness in these key areas. "Bahasa sissori islam merupakan salah satu bahasa daerah yang masih digunakan oleh masyarakat. Bahasa ini merupakan bahasa daerah yang terdapat di pulau saparua, provinsi maluku, yang memiliki kedudukan dan fungsi yang sama dengan bahasa daerah lain di Indonesia. Oleh sebab itu, patut mendapatkan prioritas dan perhatian yang sama dengan bahasa-bahasa daerah lain. Bahasa ini digunakan oleh kelompok masyarakat yang tinggal di Sisisori islan dan sekitarnya. Adapun umlah penuturanya kurang dari 1.600 orang. Untuk melestarikan dan menghindari kepunahan bahasa sisisori silan diperlukan penelitian tentang fonem bahasanya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui fonem bahasa SIsisori dan pendistribusiannya dalam kata. Metode yang digunkan adalah metode kualitataif deskriptif. Hasil analisis menunjukan bahwa fonem yang terdapat pada bahaa sisisori islan terdiri atas enam fonem vokal dan tujuh belas fonem konsonan."
