Agar manajemen penanganan bencana berjalan dengan baik, kumpulan serta analisis data dan informasi harus terhubung dengan proses pengambilan keputusan. Manajemen informasi, selain memungkinkan organisasi untuk mengambil keputusan yang efektif dan tepat waktu, juga dapat berfungsi sebagai katalis dalam menjalin hubungan dan kerjasama, sehingga akan meningkatkan efektifitas serta efisiensi dari bantuan kemanusian yang diberikan.

There is no doubt that recent event such as the December 2004 tsunami have illustrated the need for improvements in disaster response and information management system. It is evident that these systems were overwhelmed and inadequate to response to the magnitude of the events. In order for disaster management efforts to succeed it is necessary for data and information collection and analysis be inherently linked to decision making process. Information management, while required to enable agencies to make effective and timely decisions, can do more. Information management tools can be catalysts for cooperation and relationship building, resulting in increased effectiveness and efficiency of humanitarian aid delivery."

"Penelitian ini membahas mengenai manajemen informasi di Ikatan Dokter Indonesia (IDI) khususnya berhubungan dengan alur informasi di IDI, dengan menggunakan dan menerapkan metode 7 tahap audit informasi yang dibuat oleh Susan Henzcel. Tujuan Penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi informasi apa saja yang dibutuhkan oleh IDI dan bagaimana manajemen informasi di IDI, yang mana manajemen informasi ini dapat menunjang kinerja organisasi sesuai visi dan misi dari sebuah organisasi. Menurut pandangan penulis, IDI yang merupakan sebuah organisasi profesi kedokteran di Indonesia seharusnya menerapkan audit informasi dalam kegiatan manajemen informasi, dengan memeriksa apa saja kebutuhan informasi organisasi IDI yang diperlukan untuk pemecahan masalah sehingga informasi yang diperoleh organisasi dapat sesuai dengan apa yang dibutuhkan.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa proses manajemen informasi di IDI dibagi menjadi 3 bagian, yaitu penelusuran, pengolahan, dan penyaluran informasi. Selain itu, faktor yang mempengaruhi kegiatan manajemen informasi di IDI adalah penggunaan alat-alat teknologi informasi dan koneksi internet untuk saling berhubungan dengan beberapa anggota lainnya. Penelitian ini juga menunjukkan bahwa perlu adanya sistem tersendiri dalam kegiatan manajemen informasi untuk menunjang kegiatan organisasi di IDI.

This research is about information management in Indonesian Medical Association (IDI), that is related on information flow in IDI, using and implementing the seven stages of information audit made by Susan Henzcel. The purpose of this research is to identify the required by IDI and how it is managed in IDI. In IDI, information management can be support organizational performance in line with the vision and mission of an organization. Based on this research, there is a need in IDI, an organization of medical professional in Indonesia, to implement the information audit on the information management, which examining what information needs of IDI, so that the organization is able to deal the problems, by coordinating that information obtained by organization can to what is needed.
The result shows that the processes of information management in IDI are divided into 3 parts, namely: searching, processing, and distribution. In addition, the other things that influence information management in IDI are the using of tools of information technology and internet connection to communicate with other members. The research also shows that there should have been a dedicated internal system in the information management in order to support the organization work in IDI.
