This article analyses the portrayals of three different ethnicities through the leading characters, which are Dr. Gregory House, Dr. Robert Chase, Dr. Eric Foreman and Dr. Chi Park, in the medical drama House, M.D. As medical drama not only exposes the world of medicine to the audiences but also shapes public perceptions about how the physicians and health care system work, this article attempts to show how racial discriminations occur among the physicians? biomedical authority and expertise. Through textual analysis, this article argues that the show not only deconstructs and reinforces the widely-accepted, stereotypical images of African-Americans and Asians but also represents white supremacy in the United States."

"ABSTRAK
Relasi antara masyarakat, negara dan warga Ahmadiyah seringkali mdash;untuk tidak menyebut selalu mdash;berakhir dengan pengingkaran akan hak-hak dasar yang melekat pada tiap warga negara Indonesia, tak terkecuali warga Ahmadiyah. Namun demikian, fenomena menarik terjadi di kabupaten Wonosobo, yang mencoba mengurai persoalan keberagaman melalui sebuah kebijakan inklusi. "Although the last decade has seen steady progress towards wider acceptance of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, and queer (LGBTQ) individuals, LGBTQ residential and commercial areas have come under increasing pressure from gentrification and redevelopment initiatives. As a result many of these neighborhoods are losing their special character as safe havens for sexual and gender minorities. Urban planners and municipal officials have sometimes ignored the transformation of these neighborhoods and at other times been complicit in these changes. Planning and LGBTQ Communities brings together experienced planners, administrators, and researchers in the fields of planning and geography to reflect on the evolution of urban neighborhoods in which LGBTQ populations live, work, and play. The authors examine a variety of LGBTQ residential and commercial areas to highlight policy and planning links to the development of these neighborhoods. Each chapter explores a particular urban context and asks how the field of planning has enabled, facilitated, and/or neglected the specialized and diverse needs of the LGBTQ population.A central theme of this book is that urban planners need to think "beyond queer space" because LGBTQ populations are more diverse and dispersed than the white gay male populations that created many of the most visible gayborhoods. The authors provide practical guidance for cities and citizens seeking to strengthen neighborhoods that have an explicit LGBTQ focus as well as other areas that are LGBTQ-friendly. They also encourage broader awareness of the needs of this marginalized population and the need to establish more formal linkages between municipal government and a range of LGBTQ groups. Planning and LGBTQ Communities also adds useful material for graduate level courses in planning theory, urban and regional theory, planning for multicultural cities, urban geography, and geographies of gender and sexuality"--
"Planning and LGBTQ Communities gives planners concrete, practical guidance to creating inclusive communities for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered individuals, couples and families. Each chapter, written by experienced city planners, administrators, and researchers, examines specific urban contexts and how city planners facilitated or neglected the needs of LGBTQ populations. As the last decade has brought major cultural and legislative victories for LGBTQ people, "gayborhoods" and other LGBTQ residential and commercial areas have changed in character. Planning and LGBTQ Communities examines these changes, the pressures that cause them, and the role that planners and municipal officials have had in the gentrification and redevelopment of these spaces. With case studies from the United States, Canada, Australia, and South Africa, this book offers planners around the world a way to better accommodate and build for marginalized people"--"

"ABSTRAK
Crimes against homosexuals are mostly hate crimes, and should be referred to as homophobic crimes. Objective: To investigate the occurrence of head and face injuries in victims of homophobic crimes. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted at the Specialized Police for Homophobic Crimes. Data were collected from the 56 police
and medical reports corresponding to reported cases of homicide against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual and transgender (LGBT, or sexual minority) in the period from May 2009 to July 2013. Variables studied related demographic profile of victims and patterns of trauma (type of arms, number of injuries and anatomical regions) were assessed. For bivariate analyses, the Chi square and Fisher exact, with significance level of 5% were used. Results: 89.3% were homosexuals and 42.9 were gays. Firearms were the type of arms most used (46.4%), followed by cold steel (30.4%). Most victims presented multiple lesions (87.5%) and 44.6% presented injuries in the head and face. There was a statistically significant association between injuries in the head and face and the type of arms (P 0.001). Conclusion: Victims of homicide were mostly homosexuals and the main types of arms were firearms and cold steel. Most victims presented multiple lesions and injuries in the head and face were common and more frequent among lesbians and transvestites."

"The many assumptions about current library outreach services?that they're off-site, depend on special funding, and are administered by specific staff?no longer reflect the realities of providing equitable library services to the audiences who most need them. Providing equity of access is the business of every department in the library."
