Kletschkowski, Thomas
"This book presents a mechatronic approach to Active Noise Control (ANC). It describes the required elements of system theory, engineering acoustics, electroacoustics and adaptive signal processing in a comprehensive, consistent and systematic manner using a unified notation. Furthermore, it includes a design methodology for ANC-systems, explains its application and describes tools to be used for ANC-system design. From the research point of view, the book presents new approaches to sound source localization in weakly damped interiors. One is based on the inverse finite element method, the other is based on a sound intensity probe with an active free field. Furthermore, a prototype of an ANC-system able to reach the physical limits of local (feed-forward) ANC is described. This is one example for applied research in ANC-system design. Other examples are given for (i) local ANC in a semi-enclosed subspace of an aircraft cargo hold and (ii) for the combination of audio entertainment with ANC."

Haberman, Richard
"Mathematics is a grand subject in the way it can be applied to various problems in science and engineering. To use mathematics, one needs to understand the physical context. The author uses mathematical techniques along with observations and experiments to give an in-depth look at models for mechanical vibrations, population dynamics, and traffic flow. Equal emphasis is placed on the mathematical formulation of the problem and the interpretation of the results.
In the sections on mechanical vibrations and population dynamics, the author emphasizes the nonlinear aspects of ordinary differential equations and develops the concepts of equilibrium solutions and their stability. He introduces phase plane methods for the nonlinear pendulum and for predator-prey and competing species models.
Haberman develops the method of characteristics to analyze the nonlinear partial differential equations that describe traffic flow. Fan-shaped characteristics describe the traffic situation that occurs when a traffic light turns green and shock waves describe the effects of a red light or traffic accident.
Although it was written over 20 years ago, this book is still relevant. It is intended as an introduction to applied mathematics, but can be used for undergraduate courses in mathematical modeling or nonlinear dynamical systems or to supplement courses in ordinary or partial differential equations."

"In many plants, vibration and noise problems occur due to fluid flow, which can greatly disrupt smooth plant operations. These flow-related phenomena are called flow-induced vibration.
This book explains how and why such vibrations happen and provides hints and tips on how to avoid them in future plant design.
The world-leading author team doesn?t assume prior knowledge of mathematical methods and provides the reader with information on the basics of modeling.
The book includes several practical examples and thorough explanations of the structure, the evaluation method and the mechanisms to aid understanding of flow-induced vibrations."

"This book discusses efforts to control the low-frequency vibration transmission of typical power equipment and pipeline systems of ships, exploring the use of active and passive hybrid vibration isolation and adjustable dynamic vibration absorption technologies. It also proposes an adaptive feed-forward control strategy and studies a distributed feed-forward control hardware system. In addition, the book presents a three-way dynamic vibration absorption theory used to design a pipeline-system adjustable dynamic vibration absorber, which offers a number of advantages, such as compact structure, easy assembly and disassembly, low power consumption, excellent vibration control effect and wide frequency band adjustable ability, etc. This book is a valuable resource for researchers and engineers in the fields of noise and vibration control, active control systems, active vibration isolation and adaptive dynamic vibration absorption."

"This book provides readers with a timely snapshot of the potential offered by and challenges posed by signal processing methods in the field of machine diagnostics and condition monitoring. It gathers contributions to the first Workshop on Signal Processing Applied to Rotating Machinery Diagnostics, held in Setif, Algeria, on April 9-10, 2017, and organized by the Applied Precision Mechanics Laboratory (LMPA) at the Institute of Precision Mechanics, University of Setif, Algeria and the Laboratory of Mechanics, Modeling and Manufacturing (LA2MP) at the National School of Engineers of Sfax. The respective chapters highlight research conducted by the two laboratories on the following main topics: noise and vibration in machines; condition monitoring in non-stationary operations; vibro-acoustic diagnosis of machinery; signal processing and pattern recognition methods; monitoring and diagnostic systems; and dynamic modeling and fault detection."

Theoritical and experimental modal analysis were conducted in this study to obtain the dynamic parameters of structure, such as natural period and damping ratio. The object in this study is Engineering Center Building, a three-storey reinforced concrete structure located at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia. The structure was modeled in three dimensional using ETABS 9.5 to obtain natural period theoritically. Vibration test was then performed using free vibration test to obtain natural period and damping ratio experimentally. The Structure excited by human induced vibration to make the structure vibrate and then the response of structure measured using microtremor with an accelerometer sensor. The result of this experiment is able to identify four modes of the structure, as follows the 1st, 7th, 13th, and 28th mode. The result indicates that the average experimental natural period shows relatively smaller value of 14 % than the modeled natural period. While the experimental damping ratio of the structure has the value of 2,10 %. "
