...... An annotated translation is a translation supported by annotations or translator's commentary on the equivalents chosen. Translating and annotating processes require a set of theory, consisting of methods, strategies, procedures, ideology, and ethics of translation, which must be selected or applied to produce a translation based on certain translation goals (skopos). Semantic method and the ideology of foreignization are dominant throughout the translation process. Semantic method is chosen because the ST is full of culturally-bound expressions requiring sufficient explanations. Foreignization is chosen to emphasize the Tudor England setting. Substantial schematic knowledge is required to fully understand the ST and choose the most accurate equivalents. In translating a novel, a literary talent is essential for not only transferring the messages, but also preserving the poetic nature of the translation.

ABSTRACT
Divergent cultural schema DCS is a collection of knowledge related to various cultural features required to understand and interpret a text Cook, 1989; Seel, 2012; Mandler, 1984 , which is assumed to be present in source readers SR but absent in target readers TR Jaya, 2012 . DCS poses a particularly great challenge in literary text translation because it typically takes the form of a highly concise source text without any sufficient information Newmark, 1988 . In order to bridge the schematic gap or divergence between SR and TR, the translator applied various strategies Newmark, 1988; Baker, 1992 which are assumed to occupy certain ideological positions Venuti, 1995 . Bram Stoker rsquo;s Dracula, consisting of the original English source text ST and its Indonesian target text TT was chosen as data source due to its strong Victorian-European setting which contains many potential DCS. This case study Saldanha O rsquo;Brien, 2013 applies qualitative approach and falls into the area of ldquo;comparison of translations and their source texts rdquo; within translation studies Williams Chesterman, 2002 . Translation units with DCS were selected as data and categorized into appropriate schemata or subschemata on the basis of certain similarities in schematic characteristics. Data analysis generated several categories of results. The first is units of analysis n = 758 which are classified into various schemata n = 21 and subschemata n = 84 . The second is various types of ST divergence n = 13 . The third is the reasons for applying domesticating n = 16 or foreignizing n = 12 strategies, as well as their weaknesses n = 20 . The fourth is domestication as the dominant ideology of the translation of units with DCS in Dracula, with its supporting arguments such as massive omissions, allusion adaptations, dialect neutralizations, technical term generalizations, and metaphorical image substitutions. The fifth is a number of interesting phenomena n = 25 which are related to the transfer of DCS such as high or low ideological levels, different levels of divergence among TR, metaphor with multiple strategies, and ldquo;foreignization rdquo; and ldquo;domestication rdquo; by ST writer. This research amply demonstrates the complexity of strategy applications and ideological positions which are dependent on many factors such as narrative context, discourse relevance Jaya, 2015 , linguistic constraints, ST divergence, or TR schemata.

Abstrak :
A literary text typically contains many cultural elements often presented in a very concise manner to enhance its readability and aesthetic quality. Its translation can be challenging when there is a gap between source culture and target culture. Thus, a translator has to make an ideological choice: either to foreignize or to domesticize. This paper aims to identify and examine the ideology applied by a literary translator when translating culturally-divergent translation units. Bram Stoker’s Dracula and its Indonesian translation by Suwarni were selected as data source due to the novel’s significant number of cultural references unfamiliar to modern Indonesians. Forty units were selected for this paper and classified into several groups. Results show that the translator used various strategies, both foreignizing and domesticizing ones, to translate even similar units, indicating her considerable freedom. Furthermore, the results also show that translation ideology is a flexible concept which can shift throughout a translation project and be represented as a multipoint continuum. Moreover, both foreignization and domestication may take place at different levels, depending on various factors such as presence of information, extent of modification, and relevance of information.
