"Dalam memasuki milenium ke tiga, organisasi bisnis, pendidikan serta organisasi lainnya tidak bisa lepas dari pengaruh perkembangan Teknologi Informasi dalam menjalankan proses bisnisnya. Berkembangnya teknologi informasi dan komputer memberikan dukungan terhadap aktivitas-aktivitas operasional organisasi untuk meningkatkan kualitas produksi dan pelayanan pada pelanggan. Namun demikian juga memberikan ancaman terhadap aspek security dan authentication sistem komputer. Fokus pembahasan dalam tesis ini adalah membangun Sistem Informasi Akademik On Line yang mempunyai mekanisme security dan authentication handal sesuai dengan kebutuhan PEFEUI. SIA On Line PEFEUI dibangun dalam tiga tahap. Pertama adalah melakukan pengamatan terhadap sistem informasi di Universitas Katolik Atmajaya, Universitas Pelita Harapan, lingkungan PEFEUI dan kondisi terakhir sistem informasi di PEFEUI sebagai bahan masukan untuk membangun SIA On Line PEFEUI. Pada bagian ini, dibahas masalah sekuriti dan autentikasi pada masing-masing perguruan tinggi. Disamping itu juga dibahas masalah manajemen, teknologi dan komponen yang digunakan untuk membangun sistem informasi. Pembangunan tahap kedua adalah merancang Sistem lnformasi Akademik On Line yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan di PEFEUI. Terakhir, mengidentifikasi ancamanancaman terhadap aset yang dimiliki PEFEUI dan memberikan solusi untuk mengurangi kemungkinan terjadinya ancaman-ancaman tersebut ; teknologi dan manaJemen operasional yang digunakan untuk mencegah terjadinya ancaman, diantaranya penggunaan perangkat keras dan perangkat lunak seperti firewall, melakukan segmentasi Janngan dan penerapan prosedur-prosedur dalam pelaksanaannya, seperti penerapan kewenangan dalam pemprosesan data.

In entering the third millenium, it is certain that in the operation of their activities, organizations such as business, education and others will be inspired by the development of the Information System. Such information system and computers development will support the operational activities of the organization to improve the quality of the production and services to the clientele. Nevertheless it can also be a threat to the security and authentication aspects of the computer system. The focus of the discussion in this thesis is the creation of the On Line Academic Information System with qualified . security and authentication mechanism in accordance with the need of PEFEUI. The On Line Academic Information System of PEFEUI was created in three stages. At the first stage a study of the information system in Atmajaya Catholic University, Pelita Harapan University, the Extension Program of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Indonesia and its latest information system was done to get inputs in order to develop the On Line Academic Information System for PEFEUI. This first part reviews the matter of security and authentication in the information system of each university. Other matters discussed are the management, the technology and components used to create the information system. The second stage was the design the On Line Academic Information System as needed by PEFEUI. At the last stage threats to PEFEUI assets are identified and solutions are given to lesser the possibility of such threats to occur, by suggesting the technology and the operational management in preventing such problems with the use of hardware and software such as firewall, network segmentation and the application of procedures such as the policy application in data processing."
