"Banyaknya Jenis layanan yang didukung oleh Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) menyebabkan trafik yang dihasilkan menjadi sangat bursty pada titik dimana proses call admission control dilakukan. Untuk memodelkan trafik tersebut, umumnya digunakan model kedatangan Poisson and 2-State Markov Modulated Poisson Process (MMPP-2).
Pada penelitian ini dipelajari karakteristik dari kedua model tersebut berdasarkan tingkat burstiness yang ditinjau dari dua buah pendekatan: pendekatan interarrival times dan pendekatan counting process. Berdasarkan kedua pendekatan tersebut, model kedatangan akan dibandingkan berdasarkan beberapa parameter seperti PMR (Peak to Mean Ration), kuadrat koefisien variasi, Index Dispersion of Count dan parameter Hurst.
Dari hasil analisa dan simulasi didapatkan bahwa ternyata model kedatangan MMPP-2 lebih cocok untuk digunakan sebagai model trafik call admission control (CAC) pada jaringan ATM."

"Keluhan masyarakat akan mahal dan tidak terkontrolnya tarif pulsa telepon yang tarifnya pun naik atau meningkat secara berkala sebagai akibat kesepakatan antara PT. TELKOM dan mitra Kerja Sama Operasi (KSO)-nya, memberikan ide untuk mengembangkan sebuah prototipe alat pengukur dan pengontrol pulsa telepon cerdas. Alat ini diharapkan mampu berdiri sendiri -tidak memerlukan alat bantu personal komputer seperti pada warung telekomunikasi-, ringkas dan murah, sehingga cukup layak untuk dipasang sebagai pendamping telepon yang dimiliki oleh pelanggan telepon di perumahan, rumah sakit, kantor pemerintah maupun kantor swasta lainnya. Alat ini berbeda dengan tipe serupa yang saat ini banyak terdapat di warung telekomunikasi. Disamping memiliki banyak fitur kecerdasan tambahan, alat ini juga dioperasikan mandiri tanpa alat bantu komputer PC. Pemakai tidak perlu memiliki komputer tambahan untuk mengoperasikan alat ini.
Dalam penelitian ini dilakukan rancang bangun perangkat keras dan perangkat lunak, sekaligus pengujian alat. Pulsa meter cerdas dirancang untuk dapat membatasi waktu (dalam hitungan menit) penggunaan telepon, dilengkapi oleh proteksi kata kunci (password) untuk membatasi akses pengguna telepon hanya bagi orang yang berhak, dan sekaligus pula menghitung beban biaya atas pulsa yang telah dipakai, baik selama pembicaraan telepon berlangsung. Semua fitur ini dapat diprogram sesuai keinginan pengguna melalui touchpad telepon. Karenanya sifat cerdas dikatakan terdapat pada fitur alat ini. Ujicoba membuktikan bahwa ke-16 (enam belas) fitur yang direncanakan dapat berfungsi dengan baik."

"Traditional ways of interacting with multimedia applications fail in a domestic setting because the user interaction devices typical of a desktop multimedia system (mouse, keyboard, prototyped and evaluated and alternate interaction device based on a handheld touchpad device that we believe is practical in a domestic environment where people interact with Multimedia content for education and entertainment in a lounge room like setting. We have evaluated the usability level of the device in human trials and found that it performs better than keyboard-mouse combination which is one of the most widely used interaction device today."

The University of Indonesia (UI), Gerhard Mercator University (GMU), the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) have agreed to cooperate as partners to develop a joint bachelor (3+1) and masters (1+1) degree, and collaborate in the research fields of multimedia- and internet-based learning and application level active networks. This paper describes the introduction of the Offshore Project and the extending of information technology applications to the partner institutions in this international cooperation which would very much enhance the operations of the new initiative in engineering education, which could provide students in far distance with more fl exible learning environment."

"PowerPoint application has become learning first choice at the presentation session. However, this type of application is not effective enough to be used of the class since the students only know the general point of the learning content. Therefore PowerPoint needs a media to help lecturer present more detail of the learning content. This media is video. Employing video, lecturer records whole session activities, and then play it simultaneously with PowerPoint n presentation and hence, anybody else could review the whole content of learning Video-Multimedia Presentation Synchronization System (ViMPreSS) is a Content Management System (CMS) that uses SMIL to synchronize and integrate PowerPoint presentation and video files. This paper describes ViM'PreSS, its architecture, design, and its performance evaluation. Performance evaluation tests show that the time required to upload presentation and video files does not correlate linearly with the size of the files. One of the factors which influences this result is competition between clients to access the server. User evaluation tests also point out that user acceptance level to the system on average is 75% evaluation."

"In recent years, there is a significant increase on the demand of multimedia services. The use and delivery of various multimedia applications, collectively and continuously, creates increasing demand on network bandwidth. However, in most of the countries, the available bandwidth capacity remains very limited Majority users living in these regions are having difficulties to access such applications. A solution to this problem is by embedding the capability to dynamically change the format of bandwidth-intensive multimedia applications to a more efficient one into the network. The process which alters multimedia application from one format to another format is known as Transcoding. For example, cinepak format requiring high bandwidth is transcoded into lower format such as example H263. Since transcoding process is very demanding in terms computing resources, load balancing strategy in a newark environment heaps to share the load among the transcoder processor; and in turn, improves throughput and efficiency. This paper describes the implementation and analysis of applying transcoder with load balancing mechanism in a video streaming environment. Three load balancing algorithms are considered and real tests using various video and audio formats are performed in this environment. Eventhough the load balancing strategy improves the performance of the system, we still find that as the number processes increases the ability to deliver multimedia applications through transcoding process decreases. Moreover, we also conclude that our system still poses scalability problems and therefore further work is required."

"Internet-based speech recognition applications prefer using TCP to ensure reliable speech data delivery. TCP-based speech recognition can be designed to push recognition updates on the fly, without waiting for all speech data to fully arrive at the server. We propose an ns-3-based emulation platform to evaluate the performance of TCP-based speech recognition. The server and the client are connected to the simulated network using a tap bridge. The real-time performance of full-duplex speech recognition is measured based on data size, loss rate, and propagation delay. For all our data samples, the application exhibits good performance when the propagation delay is 120 seconds and the loss rate is less than 0.3%, as well as when the propagation delay is 50 seconds and the loss rate is less than 0.5%."
