Preservasi terhadap arsip foto dilakukan untuk menjaga kondisi fisik arsip foto tersebut agar nilai informasi yang terkandung dalam arsip foto tersebut dapat diakses. Berdasarkan nilai informasi dan karakteristik fisik dari arsip foto, dibutuhkan upaya yang berbeda dari arsip konvensional untuk menjaga kondisi fisik dan informasi yang terdapat di dalamnya. Penelitian ini membahas mengenai upaya preservasi terhadap arsip foto oleh Dinas Perpustakaan dan Kearsipan Kota Padang Panjang. Berdasarkan teori piramida preservasi menurut Teygeler (2001) terdiri dari preventive conservation, passive conservation, active conservation, dan restoration oleh Dinas Perpustakaan dan Kearsipan Kota Padang Panjang dalam melakukan kegiatan preservasi arsip foto telah melakukan komponen upaya preservasi yang termasuk ke dalam piramida preservasi, namun masih terdapat beberapa komponen yang perlu dievaluasi untuk kegiatan preservasi pada lembaga tersebut. ......Preservation of the photo archive is carried out to maintain the physical condition of the photo archive so that the value of the information contained in the photo archive can be accessed.
