Skripsi ini membahas perkembangan lembaga amil zakat Dompet Dhuafa periode 1993-2001. Penelitian difokuskan terhadap tiga hal, pertama gagasan dilanjutkan dengan proses pembentukan Dompet Dhuafa serta perkembangan Dompet Dhuafa era sebelum dan sesudah reformasi. Kedua, aktivitas Dompet Dhuafa di bidang penghimpunan dan pemanfaatan dana ziswaf pada periode tersebut. Ketiga, pemaparan mengenai keisitimewaan Dompet Dhuafa yang meliputi penerapan manajemen yang amanah dan profesional serta prinsip transparansi dan akuntabilitas. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif analitis dengan menggunakan metode sejarah. Hasil dari penelitian ini menerangkan bahwa Dompet Dhuafa merupakan lembaga amil zakat yang pertama kali serta berhasil dalam menerapkan konsep manajemen filantropi modern di Indonesia.

ABSTRACT
This thesis discusses the development of "amil zakat" institutions "Dompet Dhuafa" period 1993-2001. The study focused on three things, first idea of continuing with the process of formation and development of ""Dompet Dhuafa"" before and after the reform era. Second, activity in the field of ""Dompet Dhuafa"" in raising and utilization of funds ""ZISWAF"" in that period. Third, the presentation of excellence of ""Dompet Dhuafa"" which includes the implementation of a trustworthy and professional management as well as t he principles of transparency and accountability .This study is a descriptive analysis using the historical method. Results of this study explain that "Dompet Dhuafa" is "amil zakat" institutions as well as the first time succeeded in applying the concept of modern philanthropy management in Indonesia.
