"Tesis ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis respon yang ditunjukkan oleh HMI (Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam) terhadap kebijakan Orde Baru yang bersentuhan langsung dengan mahasiswa selama kurun waktu 1978-1986. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode sejarah dengan pendekatan struktural untuk menganalisis hal-hal yang mempengaruhi dinamika yang terjadi dalam tubuh HMI. dalam kurun waktu 1978-1986, HMI mengalami berbagai perubahan mulai dari bentuk gerakan hingga munculnya HMI MPO (Majelis Penyelamat Organisasi). Hasil Penelitian menunjukkan selain Kebijakan pemerintah, karakter berpikir kader HMI yang dipengaruhi oleh NDP (Nilai Dasar perjuangan) yang merupakan buku saku kader HMI, memiliki pengaruh yang cukup besar dalam dinamika yang terjadi dalam tubuh HMI. keterikatan kader HMI terhadap NDP pula yang mndorong HMI untuk bersikap adaptif terhadap kebijakan pemerintah Orde Baru......This thesis aims to analyze the response shown by HMI (Islamic Student Association) to the New Order policy which was in direct contact with students during the 1978-1986 period. This study uses historical methods with a struktural approach to analyze things that affect the dynamics that occur in the body of the HMI. During the period 1978-1986, HMI underwent various changes ranging from the form of the movement to the emergence of the HMI MPO (Organization Rescue Council).The results showed that apart from government policy, the thinking character of HMI cadres which is influenced by the NDP (Basic Value of struggle) which is the pocket book of HMI cadres, has a considerable influence on the dynamics that occur within the HMI body. The attachment of HMI cadres to the NDP also motivated HMI to be adaptive to the policies of the New Order government"
