"Pengasuhan anak yang dilakukan oleh kakek dan nenek semakin banyak terjadi di masyarakat, sehingga muncul beberapa masalah dalam proses pengasuhan tersebut. Masalahmasalah yang telah dijabarkan oleh penelitian-penelitian sebelumnya antara lain pola asuh, kesehatan, usia kakek-nenek, konflik pribadi yang muncul, dan kesulitan kakek-nenek untuk berinteraksi dengan sistem sekolah anak. Hal ini menimbulkan dampak pada sifat dan proses belajar anak. Penelitian ini ingin melengkapi penelitian-penelitian sebelumnya dengan melihat adanya masalah jarak antar generasi kakek-nenek dengan cucunya. Fokus yang diambil adalah pola asuh kakek-nenek yang dipengaruhi jarak antar generasi sehingga berdampak pada sifat dan prestasi anak. Analisa dilakukan dengan menggunakan perspektif struktural fungsional. Melalui metode kualitatif, data dikumpulkan dengan wawancara mendalam terhadap 6 orang informan (3 orang kakek atau nenek dan 3 orang cucu) yang tinggal di wilayah Kota Depok.Hasil temuan menunjukkan bahwa masalah jarak antar generasi menghasilkan dua kecenderungan pola asuh yang diterapkan kakek-nenek, yaitu pola asuh permisif dan pola asuh di antara permisif dengan otoriter. Dua pola asuh tersebut cenderung berdampak negatif pada sifat anak, yaitu suka berbohong dan pemalas. Namun ada perbedaan pada kemandirian anak, dimana pola asuh antara permisif dan otoriter menghasilkan anak yang mandiri sedangkan pola asuh permisif sebaliknya. Selain itu, kedua pola asuh kakek-nenek berdampak negatif bagi prestasi anak di sekolah.

Nurture of children carried by grandparents are rising in popularity of today's society, resulting in several problems in the nurturing process. The problems that've been elaborated by previous studies including the patterns of nurture, health, age of the grandparents, personal conflicts, and difficulties among the grandparents in interacting with the children's school system. This affects the behaviour and learning process of the children. This research aims to add to previous researches, by looking at the problems of intergeneration gap between the grandparents and their grandchildren. Focus of this research is the patterns of nurture carried by the grandparents which are influenced by intergeneration gap and its effect towards the behaviour and learning process of the children. The analysis was done through the perspective of structuralfunctionalism. Using qualitative methods, data were collected through in-depth interviews with 6 informants (3 grandparents and 3 grandchildrens) that lives in the area of Depok city.

The findings show that the problems of intergeneration gap results in two tendencies of nurture pattern, which are permissive pattern and a moderation between permissive and authoritarian pattern. Those two patterns tend to bear negative effects on the behaviour of the children, such as likeness to lie and laziness. However, there is a difference on children's independence, where the moderate pattern results in a more independent child and the permissive pattern results in otherwise. Other than that, both of those patterns carried negative impacts on the children's academic achievement"
