"Surat kabar merupakan salah satu media komunikasi yang dapat memenuhi kebutuhan masyarakat akan informasi tentang berbagai macam hal. De Telegraaf, De Volkskrant, Trouw, NRC Handelsblad dan De Pers merupakan lima surat kabar populer Belanda. Seperti kebanyakan surat kabar lainnya, kelima surat kabar tersebut memiliki moto. Moto merupakan kalimat, frasa, atau kata yg digunakan sebagai semboyan, pedoman, atau prinsip. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi gaya bahasa apa yang digunakan pada moto dan menjelaskan keterkaitan antara ideologi dengan moto yang digunakan lima surat kabar tersebut. Berdasarkan hasil analisis ditemukan adanya keterkaitan antara moto dan ideologi surat kabar. Selain gaya bahasa ellips yang ditemukan pada moto kelima surat kabar Belanda tersebut, terdapat pula beberapa gaya bahasa lainnya seperti metonimia, pars pro toto, sinekdote dan totum pro parte, repetisi, paradoks, dan personifikasi.

The newspaper is one of the communication medium that can meet the needs of the public to gather various of information. De Telegraaf, De Volkskrant, Trouw, NRC Handelsblad and De Pers are five popular newspapers in the Netherlands. Like many other newspapers, all the newspapers have a motto. The motto is a sentence, phrase, or word which is used as a slogan, guidelines, or principles. This study aims to identify the figure of speeches that are being used in the motto's of the 5 most populair newspapers and to identify the association between the motto’s and the ideology of the newspapers. The analysis shows a strong correlation and association between the motto's and the ideology of the newspapers. Besides the elliptical styles, other figures of speech, such as metonymy, pars pro toto, sinekdote and totum pro parte, repetitions, paradox, and personification are identified in all five newspapers."
