"ABSTRAKSkripsi ini membahas pembentukan identitas beberapa tokoh dalam novel TheBluest Eye karya Toni Morrison. Tokoh-tokoh tersebut adalah Pecola Breedlove,Pauline, Cholly Breedlove, dan Three Whores (China, Poland, dan Miss Marie).Keempat tokoh tersebut memiliki permasalahan masing-masing dalam memahamidan membentuk identitas. Identitas kolektif yang mereka miliki, pengakuan darimasyarakat, serta kemampuan mereka menentukan dan mempertahankan identitasdiri mempengaruhi proses pemahaman dan pembentukan identitas yang merekajalani. Hal ini memiliki persamaan dengan tiga poin yang terkandung dalamkonsep identitas Kwame Anthony Appiah. Penelitian ini menggunakan analisiskarakterisasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa proses pemahaman danpembentukan identitas pada seseorang maupun kelompok tidak hanya dipengaruhioleh lingkungan sekitar tetapi juga melewati tiga poin atau tahapan dalam konsepidentitas Appiah

ABSTRACTThe focus of this research is to analyze on the formatting of identity of several

characters in The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison. The characters analyzed Pecola

Breedlove, Pauline, Cholly Breedlove, and The Three Whores (China, Poland,

dan Miss Marie). These four characters have their difficulties in understanding

and forming of their own identities. The process of understanding and forming of

identity is influenced by the existence of collective identities, recognition from

community and society, along with their capability to decide and protect their

identities. These related to three points about identity that consist in the concept of

identity of Kwame Anthony Appiah. This research uses analysis of

characterization as the basic method. The result of this research proves that the

process of understanding and forming of identity is not only influenced by the

environment but also has to go through three points or phases in Appiah?s concept

of identity."

"Tesis ini mencermati peran diaspora dalam politik internasional dan fokus terhadap pengetahuan substantif tentang Diaspora Indonesia, serta keterkaitannya dengan pemerintah Indonesia. Dewasa ini, Diaspora membuat suatu gebrakan dalam hubungan internasional. Perannya dalam memperkuat dan mempertahankan suatu negara kemudian dimanfaatkan oleh berbagai kalangan untuk menciptakan kesejahteraan negara. Menurut Delano dan Gamlen, terdapat beberapa hal yang perlu diperhatikan dalam memahami relasi negara dengan diasporanya yaitu dengan melihat potensi dan perkembangan diaspora, merangkul transnasionalisme, dan pengelolaan diaspora secara global. Pada kasus Diaspora Indonesia, ketiga hal tersebut mempengaruhi perkembangan diaspora Indonesia serta kebijakan publik dan kebijakan luar negeri yang dibuat cenderung mengarah kepada kepentingan negara. Pemerintah Indonesia berupaya mengkonstruksikan Diaspora Indonesia sebagai potensi besar untuk kemajuan Indonesia dengan tujuan memajukan Indonesia. Komunitas Epistemik, Pelajar, Pengusaha, dan berbagai golongan membantu terciptanya tujuan tersebut. Namun demikian, hal tersebut tidak diimbangi dengan pengetahuan substantif terhadap diaspora yang baik dan justru menciptakan permasalahan lain dalam tubuh Diaspora Indonesia sendiri.

This thesis examines the role of Diaspora in International Politics and focuses on substantive knowledge of the Indonesian Diaspora, as well as the engagement of Indonesian government. Nowadays, Diaspora makes a breakthrough within International Relations. Its role to empower and strengthen the state is being used by every element about prosperity. According to Delano and Gamlen, there are several things that have to be concerned in understanding the relations between state and its diaspora, looking at its development and potential, embracing transnationalism, and governing global diaspora. In Indonesian Diaspora case, the three aspects influence the development of the Indonesian Diaspora and public and foreign policy that have been made tends to be focused on gaining the national interest. Indonesian government tries to construct Indonesian Diaspora as potential source to better Indonesia. Epistemic community, students, entrepreneurs, and several groups help the government to reach that purpose. However, the lack of substantive knowledge of the Indonesian Diaspora creates other problems for the Indonesian Diaspora itself."
