"Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan pilihan perempuan Batak dalam menjalani waithood atau menunda pernikahan. Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi secara mendalam terkait proses dari pilihan waithood pada perempuan Batak dan faktor-faktor yang melatarbelakangi pilihan perempuan Batak ber-waithood. Studi-studi sebelumnya secara luas telah membahas fenomena waithood yang mencakup faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi pilihan menunda pernikahan dan juga melajang. Namun, masih sedikit studi-studi sebelumnya yang mengaitkan fenomena waithood dengan faktor atau latar budaya. Menurut peneliti, penting untuk membahas faktor budaya yang dapat mempengaruhi pilihan perempuan untuk menunda pernikahan. Melalui teori pilihan rasional, peneliti memiliki argumen bahwa adanya fenomena waithood memunculkan berbagai pilihan yang tentunya memiliki keuntungan bagi kehidupan perempuan terutama bagi perempuan Batak yang memiliki kultur patriarki yang kuat pada lingkungannya yang mengakibatkan pilihan hidup mereka sering kali terbatas. Pada penelitian ini, peneliti melakukan eksplorasi pada proses pengambilan keputusan berwaithood dan faktor-faktor yang mendorong pilihan perempuan Batak untuk waithood. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan studi kasus pada perempuan batak yang menjalankan waithood. Ada 5 (lima) Informan yang berdomisili di area jabodetabek yang di wawancara secara mendalam. Temuan studi menunjukkan bahwa selama proses pengambilan keputusan perempuan Batak yang memilih waithood, didorong oleh berbagai faktor dari faktor internal, faktor keluarga, faktor teman, faktor budaya dan juga faktor media.

This study aims to explain the choice of Batak women in undergoing waithood or delaying marriage. This research explores in depth the process of waithood choices in Batak women and the factors behind the choice of Batak women in waithood. Previous studies have widely discussed the phenomenon of waithood which includes factors that influence the choice of delaying marriage and also being single. However, there are still few previous studies that relate the phenomenon of waithood to cultural factors or settings. According to the researcher, it is important to discuss cultural factors that may influence women's choice to delay marriage. Through rational choice theory, the researcher has an argument that the existence of the waithood phenomenon raises various choices which certainly have advantages for women's lives, especially for Batak women who have a strong patriarchal culture in their environment which results in their life choices often being limited. In this study, researchers explored the decision-making process of waithood and the factors that encourage Batak women's choice of waithood. This research uses a qualitative approach with case studies on Batak women who practice waithood. There are 5 (five) informants who live in the Jabodetabek area who were interviewed in depth. The findings of the study show that during the decision-making process of Batak women who choose waithood, it is driven by various factors from internal factors, family factors, friend factors and also media factors."
