ABSTRAK Pitcher plants (Nepenthes spp.) included in carnivorous plants which are often visited by nectar-seeking insects, such as bees, beetles, butterflies and ants. In order to be visited by insects, pitcher plants provide a lure prize in the form of nectar produced by flowers (floral nectar) and nectar in other parts outside the flower (extrafloral nectar). In an effort to get the nectar, visitor insects can fall into the hole of the pitcher which will eventually become the food of the pitcher plants.

Palnt conservation efforts aim to ensure the continuing exitence of valued plant species. An example of the benefits of such activity is the Cibulan tourist attraction in Kuningan Regency wich indirectly contributes to plant conservation by preserving a sacred location with traditional mythic associations. At this site, there are eleven well-established, large-diameter trees (dbh>50cm) belonging to the following five species: 'ambit' or 'anyang-anyang' (Elaeocarpus grandiflorus Sm.); 'cempaka putih' 9michelia X alba DC.); 'lame' (Alstonia scholaris (L.) R. Br.); 'gayam' (Inocarpus fagifer (Parkinson) Fosberg); and 'bunut' (Ficus virens aiton). The tourist attractions at Cibulan with its huge trees represents a large carbon storage reserve; for example, the five 'ambit' trees growing there ranged from 4.77 to 17.38 tons of sequestered C per tree. This demonstrates the importance of this tourist attraction not just for its cultural and recreational value, but also as a location for conserving valuable tree species with the additional benefit of removing large amounts of carbon dioxide from atmosphere that would otherwise be contributing to global-warming.

ABSTRAK
Sauromatum and Typhonium are two genera belonging to the Araceae family. The genera have similarities in morphology. Since the genera were erected by Schott in 1832, they have often been reduced to one genus, i.e. Typhonium, by many taxonomists, only to be separated again by others. This dispute has now been resolved after research on chlorophast and DNA molecular sequences, conducted in 2010 by Cusimano et al. This research demonstrated that the two genera do differ significantly. Therefore, they should be separated taxonomically, as Typhonium and Sauromatum. Soon after the publication of this research, the name Sauromatum horsfieldii was restored, replacing Typhonium horsfieldii which now is reduced to status of a synonym.
