The progressiveness of malignant tumors is influenced by various complex factors. One of the important factor is Tenascin-C (Tn-C) protein, which can interact with fibronectin as an anti adhesive of anti modulation protein. Tenascin-C is an extra cellular matrix glyco protein (EMG) which can be found in the oral tissue also as an up regulator. They can be associated with EMG, and strongly influenced promotion of the stromal cell as cell growth, migration, differentiation, angiogenesis, and apoptosis in cancer. Alternative splicing of fibronectin-like type III (FN lll) repeats of Tn-C generates a number of splice variants, and influences tumor progressiveness. The conclusion of Tn-C role in tumor progressiveness depends on the molecular weight and alternative splicing of FN lll. ;Indonesian Journal of Dentistry 2006; Edisi Khusus KPPIKG XIV: 84-86;Indonesian Journal of Dentistry 2006; Edisi Khusus KPPIKG XIV: 84-86"

Stress is hypothesized as a common pathway for several related chronic diseases of man. Psychosocial stress as modified by perceptions and coping by patients can lead to physical processes. Psychoneuroimmunologic (PNI) studies have suggested that psychosocial factors can alter immune function and increase vulnerability to illnesses. The patients also have high sensitivity to periodontal disease (PD). This article described the association of stress as a physiological respons to diseases such as PD, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and inflammatory bowel disease. The psychosocial stress can lead to physiological processes through 1) the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis leading to glucocortico-steroid secretion, 2) the autonomic nervous system, resulting in the release of catecholamine; or 3) the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis, resulting in the release of sex hormones. The processes may affects on chronic diseases. It can be concluded that psychosocial stress in periodontal disease patients must be considered and social supports must be provided in order to achieve an optimum periodontal therapy result.;Stress is hypothesized as a common pathway for several related chronic diseases of man. "A cephalometric survey on people of Tengger, Blitar, Kudus and Cililin people has been performed, with the aims to check their hetero/homogeneities, their affinities to mongoloid or austromelanesoid cephalometric characters, their relationship with deutero or protomalayid ancestors and their tendencies toward the presence of cephalometric characteristic polarization. The parameters measured were one stature factor, two neurocranial factor and ten splanchnocranial factors. The survey was cross sectional and on average 50 perople of each gender were sampled in all groups. The measurements were done in accordance with Martin Saller method. Age of the samples was between 18-25 years. Significant correlation of means of different groups was obtained with 'student t test', with 1% level of confidence. A significant difference was found in the head length and among the cephalic indices between Tengger people and the other groups. The cephalometric characteristics of Tengger people turned out to be closer to protomalayid than to deuteromalayid people, while the cephalometric characteristics of the other groups were closer to mongoloid than the austromelanesoid. They were homogenous without tendency of west-east polarization."

"Forensic odontology (FO) has played an important role in the process of identification of unknown victims. This has help doctor, dentist and forensic expert to a great extents. The process of identification of 2 plane crash victims of Garuda DC 10 in 1987 and Garuda Air-Bus in 1995, and 41 murder victims executed by Dukun AS after exhumationed are discussed here. The need of a well trained dentists in the field of FO is imperative as a companion of doctors and forensic experts in the process of examining cases of unknown origin, criminal cases and mass disasters victims. It is expected in the future that the demand of Forensic Odontologist is a must in several health service centers in Indonesia."

"This is time for adolescence reproductive health to receive serious attention from various parties, such as the government, educators, religious leaders and the youth themselves. Studies from some parts of Indonesia indicated that the incidence of teenage pregnancies is increasing. The global information on sexual matters has been claimed for influencing the youth to perform a risky behavior which in turn affecting their reproductive health. Basically, this paper discusses the phenomenon of adolescence reproductive health based on the research that was conducted by PPK-LIPI in collaboration with IPPA in Surabaya. Some important issues that can be highlighted are closely related to youth sexual behavior. A number of youth has already been exposed to pornography materials and some of them have engaged in sex before marriage. Although the percentage is quite small, however, it indicated that pre-marital sexual relationship occured among youth. This phenomenon likes the tip of the iceberg : what is reflected might be smaller than the factual. Ironically, the majority of people still hold a sigma that reproductive health issues are associated with sexual matters. Consequently, spreading-out information on reproductive health issues to youth is not allowed because it might stimulate them to practice pre-marital sexual intercourse. Therefore, such adolescence-friendly approaches are needed to socialize and empower the youth to perform healthy reproductive life. Advocacy models such as peer educator and youth center actually can bring a lot of advantages and positive impacts to youth as well as their parents."

"Effects of additing 1 percent (w/o) palladium (Pd) on the thermal behavior of a lathe cut type high copper amalgam (13 w/o copper) were studied. The identical alloys, with and without 1% Pd were fabricated. X-ray diffraction studies of the amalgams revealed the elimination of the y2-phase by Pd addition. DSC thermogram of non-Pd containing amalgam indicated the existence of two y1-phasesone with the transition temperature (endothermic peak) at 88°C and the other at 109°C. The thermogram data of the Pd containing amalgam showed an endothermic peak at 110,7°C. The transition temperature of the n phase of the palladium containing amalgam is 4,9°C lower than the transition temperature of the n phase of the non Pd containing amalgam. This result indicates that the n phase of the Pd containing amalgam includes more of Tin (Sn) than the non-Pd containing amalgam. The thermogravimetri diagram showed that the phase decomposition occured at about 390°C for the non-Pd containing amalgam and at about 410°C for the Pd containing amalgam. It's concluded that the addition of 1% Pd into a lathe cut type of high copper amalgam (13%) could eliminate the formation of y2 phase as well as an unstable y1 phase, promoting strong mercury bonding to silver."

"Reviewed indicators of National Household Health Survey (NHHS) 1995 were done to know wheter the target of dental health for all by the year 2000 which was the program goals has been achieved. The indicators reviewed were index DMF-T, prevalence of dental caries, percent people with a minimum of 20 functional teeth and percent people with complete teeth. Index DMF-T is a total number of D-T (decayed teeth) score, M-F (missing teeth) score and F-T (filled teeth) score that shows level of seriousness of dental damage caused by dental caries/ cavity. The findings showed that indicator "DMF-T index among children aged 12 years" was low (2.21) and achieved the target. But it is not a positive one finding that the score was dominated by D-T score which have not been took up yet, and the high prevalence of population with dental caries experience which was covered 77% of children aged 12 years. Indicator "population aged 18 years that retain all their teeth" is not a sharp one because it is only show the retainning of the teeth without knowing the conditions of the teeth, loss or caries. Target year 2000 that was "75% population aged 35-44 years have a minimum of 20 functional teeth" has been achieved. Target year 2000 that was "50% population aged 65+ years have a minimum of 20 functional teeth" can not been achieved. Indicator of "children aged 5 years with caries free" was not collected by SKRT 1995, but it is needed to monitor the program prevention. Indicator "population with deep pocket" is important to know the damage of teeth that caused by periodontal diseases. It is recommended to have a comprehensive services which consist of promotion, protection, early diagnosis and prompt treatment. Indicator "prevalence of caries" on a couple of age groups is needed, and also indicator of "children aged 5 years with caries free" and "population with deep pocket" specifically on age 35-44 years and 65+ years."

"Principally, metal ceramic bonding were determined by availability of forming oxide layer on the interface between metal and ceramic. Only a thin film of oxide layer that needed for provide sufficient adherence. Many investigations were done in order to increase this condition, for example kinds of treatment on the interface e.g. alternative oxidation, sandblasting and finishing metal direction. These investigations purposed to measure the magnitude of metal ceramic bonding through the kinds of test e.g. shear bonding and flexual biaxial testing. Besides, metal ceramic bonding might be detected by the amount of remained ceramic adherence. Treatment on the metal ceramic until investigated the influence of moisture environment to the metal ceramic bonding."

"In this study, the ternary base alloys of nickel-copper-manganese (Ni-Cu-Mn) alloys are prepared and these ternary alloys systems, which were constituted from higher nickel and lower copper contents than copper-base alloy ones, were evaluated by a tarnish test. Tarnish tests conducted in a 0,1% sodium sulphide solution (pH=12) at 37°C. All test specimens were cast into square paddles of 15 mm x 20 mm x 2,5 mm using the lost-wax technique with a phoshate-bonded investment. The surface of the specimens were then prepared with abrasion papers down to a 600 grit finish. Tarnish attack was quantitatively evaluated by Fibre colorimetry. The results of tarnish test showed that ternary nickel-copper-manganese alloys, such as 40Ni-30Cu-30Mn and 50Ni-30Cu-20Mn, have superior tarnishment resistance than other alloys, e.g. 20Ni-40Cu-40Mn, 30Ni-30Cu-40Mn and 30Ni-40Cu-30Mn. It was also found that 40Ni-30Cu-30Mn and 50Ni-30Cu-20Mn alloys have lower values of colour change vector than the other alloys given above."
