Abstrak :
Opening with a general introduction on chemokine function and chemokine receptor biology, the handbook goes on to cover the known implications of these signaling molecules in human diseases, such as cancer, neural disorders, and viral infection, including HIV/AIDS. The second half of the book systematically surveys current drug development efforts at targeting individual chemokine receptors, as well as other chemokine interaction partners. Contributions in the first part of the book are mainly from academia, whereas the second part contains up-to-date reports from the pharmaceutical industry.

This handbook provides the first-ever inside view of today's integrated approach to rational drug design. Chemoinformatics experts from large pharmaceutical companies, as well as from chemoinformatics service providers and from academia demonstrate what can be achieved today by harnessing the power of computational methods for the drug discovery process. With the user rather than the developer of chemoinformatics software in mind, this book describes the successful application of computational tools to real-life problems and presents solution strategies to commonly encountered problems. It shows how almost every step of the drug discovery pipeline can be optimized and accelerated by using chemoinformatics tools-from the management of compound databases to targeted combinatorial synthesis, virtual screening and efficient hit-to-lead transition.

Chemogenomics brings together the most powerful concepts in modern chemistry and biology, linking combinatorial chemistry with genomics and proteomics.
This first reference devoted to the topic covers all stages of the early drug discovery process, from target selection to compound library and lead design.
With the combined expertise of 20 research groups from academia and leading pharmaceutical companies, this is a must-have for every drug developer and medicinal chemist applying the powerful methods of chemogenomics to speed up the drug discovery process.

Abstrak :
Smoking causes and contributes to a large number of human diseases, yet due to the large number of potentially hazardous compounds in cigarette smoke. almost 5,000 chemicals have been identified, establishing the link between smoking and disease has often proved difficult.
This unbiased and scientifically accurate overview of current knowledge begins with an overview of the chemical constituents in cigarette smoke, their fate in the human body, and their documented toxic effects on various cells and tissues. Recent results detailing the many ways components of cigarette smoke adversely affect human health are also presented, highlighting the role of smoking in cardiovascular, respiratory, infectious and other diseases. A final chapter discusses current strategies for the treatment and prevention of smoking-induced illness.
Despite the obvious importance of the topic, this is the first comprehensive reference on tobacco smoke toxicity, making for essential reading for all toxicologists and healthcare professionals dealing with smoking-related diseases.
