"Penelitian ini membahas mengenai fenomena kekalahan CPP di wilayah urban Kamboja pada pemilu tahun 2013. Pertanyaan penelitian ini adalah mengapa CPP mengalami kekalahan di wilayah urban Kamboja pada pemilu tahun 2013. Untuk menjawab pertanyaan tersebut, penelitian ini menggunakan teori Dominant Party Authoritarian Regimes dari Kenneth Greene dan konsep International Election Observation dari Thomas Carothers. Selain itu, penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif, dengan cara mengumpulkan data primer melalui wawancara mendalam dan analisis dan data sekunder dari kajian literatur. Hasil pembahasan dan analisis tulisan ini menemukan tiga kondisi yang melatarbelakangi kekalahan CPP di wilayah urban pada pemilu tahun 2013. Pertama, penurunan kinerja dan permasalahan dalam pemerintahan Hun Sen. Kedua, perbedaan isu dan strategi kampanye yang digunakan oleh CPP dan CNRP. Ketiga, penurunan praktik intimidasi politik oleh militer.

This thesis discusses about CPP rsquo s defeat in Cambodia rsquo s urban areas on 2013 general election. In particular, this thesis questions why CPP was defeated in Cambodia rsquo s urban areas on 2013 general election. To answer this question, this thesis uses Dominant Party Authoritarian Regimes from Kenneth Greene and International Election Observation concept from Thomas Carothers. This thesis uses qualitative method, by gathering primary data from indepth interview and secondary data analysis from literature review. This thesis finds that there are three main conditions that lead to the defeat of CPP in urban areas on 2013 general election. First, the decreasing performance and problems in Hun Sen Regimes. Second, differences of issues and campaign strategies used by CPP and CNRP. Third, the decrease of political intimidation practice by the military."

"The global financial and economic shock of 2007-09 is the third major economic crisis to have buffeted Cambodia in its post-conflict period, coming in the wake of the food crisis of 2007-08 and just a decade after the Asian financial crisis of 1997-98 (the "triple crises"). Cambodia's post-conflict history can be divided into two periods: 1991-98, referred to as the early phase of transition during which the first of the triple crises, the Asian financial crisis, occurred; and 1998 to the present, the late phase of transition during which the food and economic shocks transpired. A stocktake of the developments in Cambodia's post-conflict history suggests that the country has come a long way in reinstituting the foundations of a capitalist economic and procedural democracy but has yet to make significant headway in economic sophistication and substantive democracy. The triple crises were different, yet had similar characteristics. They were all exogenously-driven shocks with their own specific causes but their effects were shaped by the country's situation at the time."
