Abstrak :
Perhimpunan Bangsa-bangsa Asia Tenggara (ASEAN) merupakan organisasi terpenting di kawasan Asia Tenggara. Republik Rakyat Tiongkok dan negara-negara ASEAN merupakan mitra yang akrab. ASEAN dan Tiongkok menjalankan Hubungan Dialog sejak 30 tahun yang lalu sampai masa ini. Interaksi negara anggota ASEAN dan Tiongkok dalam media juga semakin banyak. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori representasi dan teori analisis wacana sebagai kerangka teoritis. Melalui metode kualitatif-analisis, penelitian ini melakukan observasi berita-berita di media “Antara” Indonesia dan “Xinhua” Tiongkok, memilih topik tentang ASEAN, dan menganalisisnya. Pendekatan yang dipakai adalah melalui analisis wacana dan representasi. Temuan pada penelitian ini dapat dirumuskan bahwa kedua media sama-sama paling mementingkan interaksi dalam bidang politik, dan juga bersikap optimis terhadap interaksi ASEAN-Tiongkok. Perbedaannya, Media “Antara” membahas tentang konflik ASEAN-Tiongkok, sedangkan “Xinhua” tidak.  Selain itu, “Antara” lebih cenderung menggunakan kutipan langsung, media “Xinhua” lebih sering menggunakan kutipan tidak langsung. Selain membahas persoalan ekonomi, politik, dan budaya, unsur budaya dan politik kedua negara ditemukan bahwa telah mempengaruhi pemberitaan hubungan ASEAN-Tiongkok, khususnya sepanjang pemberitaan ini diteliti, selama bulan Juni sampai Agustus 2022. ......The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is the most important organization in the Southeast Asian region. ASEAN countries and The People's Republic of China have a close friendship, the Dialogue Relations between China and ASEAN has been established for 30 years. The interaction between ASEAN countries and China in the media is also increasing. In this research, the researcher will use representation theory and discourse analysis theory as the theoretical framework. Through a qualitative-analytic method, this research observes the news in the media “Antara”in Indonesia and “Xinhua” in China, chooses topics about ASEAN, then analyzes them. The approach used is discourse analysis and representation. This study finds that two media both lay emphasis on interaction in the political field, and are both optimistic about ASEAN-China interaction. The difference is, the Indonesian media “Antara” also discusses the ASEAN-China conflicts, however “Xinhua” doesn’t. Besides, “Antara” tends to use direct quotes, “Xinhua” often uses indirect quotes. In addition to discussing economic, political and cultural issues, the culture and politic of the two countries influenced reporting on ASEAN-China interaction, especially as long as this news was observed, during June to August 2022.

ASEAN has an abiding interest in peace and stability in this region and in freedom of navigation in and overflight above the South China Sea. Much of ASEANs commerce, including its members' traded food and energy resources, passes through or over the South China Sea. The stakes for ASEAN and its members in the South China Sea are very high.This book is the product of a conference on Entering Uncharted Waters? ASEAN and the South China Sea Dispute, initiated to remind all claimants to bring their claims as close as possible to the provisions of the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. After all, ASEAN has sought to promote the rule of law in the region.
