Differential equations are the basis for models of any physical systems that exhibit smooth change. This book combines much of the material found in a traditional course on ordinary differential equations with an introduction to the more modern theory of dynamical systems. Applications of this theory to physics, biology, chemistry, and engineering are shown through examples in such areas as population modeling, fluid dynamics, electronics, and mechanics. Differential Dynamical Systems begins with coverage of linear systems, including matrix algebra; the focus then shifts to foundational material on nonlinear differential equations, making heavy use of the contraction-mapping theorem. Subsequent chapters deal specifically with dynamical systems concepts low, stability, invariant manifolds, the phase plane, bifurcation, chaos, and Hamiltonian dynamics. Throughout the book, the author includes exercises to help students develop an analytical and geometrical understanding of dynamics. Many of the exercises and examples are based on applications and some involve computation; an appendix offers simple codes written in Maple, Mathematica, and MATLAB software to give students practice with computation applied to dynamical systems problems.

This book gives a unified presentation in an abstract setting of the main theorems in bifurcation theory, as well as more recent and lesser known results. It covers both the local and global theory of one-parameter bifurcations for operators acting in infinite-dimensional Banach spaces, and shows how to apply the theory to problems involving partial differential equations. In addition to existence, qualitative properties such as stability and nodal structure of bifurcating solutions are treated in depth.

Inverse limits provide a powerful tool for constructing complicated spaces from simple ones. They also turn the study of a dynamical system consisting of a space and a self-map into a study of a (likely more complicated) space and a self-homeomorphism. In four chapters along with an appendix containing background material the authors develop the theory of inverse limits. The book begins with an introduction through inverse limits on [0,1] before moving to a general treatment of the subject. Special topics in continuum theory complete the book. Although it is not a book on dynamics, the influence of dynamics can be seen throughout; for instance, it includes studies of inverse limits with maps from families of maps that are of interest to dynamicists such as the logistic and the tent families.

The book includes a theory for flow barriers and passability to boundaries in discontinuous dynamical systems that will completely change traditional concepts and ideas in the field of dynamical systems. Edge dynamics and switching complexity of flows in discontinuous dynamical systems are explored in the book and provide the mathematical basis for developing the attractive network channels in dynamical systems. The theory of bouncing flows to boundaries, edges and vertexes in discontinuous dynamical systems with multi-valued vector fields is described in the book as a “billiard” theory of dynamical system networks. The theory of dynamical system interactions in discontinued dynamical systems can be used as a general principle in dynamical system networks, which is applied to dynamical system synchronization.

......There is a reciprocal interaction between human and groundwater resources in which all components influence each other. Contamination occurred along soilwater interface in a river is an issue that has to be examined. Physical model of flow through porous media and contaminant transport using seepage tank is proposed to help the understanding of the phenomena. This model describes the flow of water through porous media in steady and unsteady condition and also transport of contaminant in advection-dispersion mechanism that happens for point-source loading. Yet, more development is needed to complete the analysis of this model?s output.

Abstrak :
Dynamical systems arise in all fields of applied mathematics. The author focuses on the description of numerical methods for the detection, computation, and continuation of equilibria and bifurcation points of equilibria of dynamical systems. This subfield has the particular attraction of having links with the geometric theory of differential equations, numerical analysis, and linear algebra. Several features make this book unique. The first is the systematic use of bordered matrix methods in the numerical computation and continuation of various bifurcations. The second is a detailed treatment of bialternate matrix products and their Jordan structure. Govaerts discusses their use in the numerical methods for Hopf and related bifurcations. A third feature is a unified treatment of singularity theory, with and without a distinguished bifurcation parameter, from a numerical point of view. Finally, numerical methods for symmetry-breaking bifurcations are discussed in detail, up to the fundamental cases covered by the equivariant branching lemma.

......Avian flu and swine flu are respiratory infectious diseases caused by influenza viruses that attack the nose, throat, bronchus, and sometimes the lungs. Infections caused from mild, severe, and even death. The genetic reassortment can produce a new virus that is a combination of avian flu and swine flu viruses called mutant type flu. Treatment with antiviral drugs is used for the healing process of these diseases. To find out the model of the spread disease, SIR epidemic model used with the analysis of the equilibrium point, stability, and basic reproduction number R0 with the Next Generatin Matrix NGM approach. The model approach uses a deterministic model with a seven dimensional differential equation system. Analytic and numerical studies are used for the interpretation of the results provided by the model. From the result of the study, we get 3 values of basic reproduction number which becomes the determinant factor for the survival of avian flu and swine flu diseases in the environtment.

The main aim of this volume is to offer a unified, self-contained introduction to the interplay of these three main areas of research, ergodic theory, hyperbolic dynamics, and dimension theory. Furthermore, it includes an introduction to the thermodynamic formalism, which is an important tool in dimension theory.

Mathematical models are used to simulate, and sometimes control, the behavior of physical and artificial processes such as the weather and very large-scale integration (VLSI) circuits. The increasing need for accuracy has led to the development of highly complex models. However, in the presence of limited computational, accuracy, and storage capabilities, model reduction (system approximation) is often necessary. Approximation of Large-Scale Dynamical Systems provides a comprehensive picture of model reduction, combining system theory with numerical linear algebra and computational considerations. It addresses the issue of model reduction and the resulting trade-offs between accuracy and complexity. Special attention is given to numerical aspects, simulation questions, and practical applications.
