ABSTRACT
Environmental issues oftentimes have no place in national online media coverage. The reason is because
environmental issues are often regarded as sensitive issues and invite conflicting interests of various parties. In addition, changes in the news companys business model that began to take advantage through monetized clicks
from the audience made environmental issues not strategic for profit. Nevertheless, journalism in the digital era
also gave birth to hyperlocal journalism which became a new force for journalists to be able to prioritize the
quality of reporting that fulfills the communitys right to get information that is inclusive and one of them on
environmental issues. This study aims to examine the role of environmental actors consisting of the government,
non-governmental organizations and civil society in voicing environmental issues in Bali through a hyperlocal
media called Bale Bengong. It was found that environmental actors and hyperlocal media played a role in (1)
providing space for NGO advocacy and campaign agendas, (2) helping communities monitor power, and (3)
giving voice to the voiceless in environmental problems in Bali."

"In the past decade, a small but growing body of research has drawn attention to the environmental concerns of rising greenhouse gas emissions associated with the consumption and production of food; this is an issue of increasing importance in Southeast Asia where rapid population growth is leading to year-on-year increases in food demand. To date, countries in Southeast Asia have shown little interest in addressing greenhouse gas emissions across the whole life cycle of food—production, processing, transportation, retailing, consumption, and final disposal—despite a growing awareness of climate change andits effects. This paper serves as a starting point to explore the relatively under-researched topic of greenhouse gas emission trends and the production and consumption of food in Southeast Asia, with particular focus on the Malaysian food sector. Previous research documenting greenhouse gas emissions from specific food products and components in the food supply chain has been used to determine the likely greenhouse gas ‘hotspots’ in Malaysia. The paper concludes by recommending the development of an overarching framework for Sustainable Food Systems in Malaysia and identifies specific areas of research to support this framework."

Payments for environmental services mechanism is expected to strengthen decisions of agricultural landowners to maintain the existence of their agricultural land. This mechanism is expected to prevent the conversion of land that occurs due to its lower appreciation compared to other uses. This study is aimed to critically examine the challenges of implementing payments for environmental services in Indonesia and strategies to improve the implementation of payments for environmental services schemes to reduce agricultural land conversion. Ostrom’s Institutional Analysis and Development framework is used to examine the implementation of Payments for environmental services. The implementation was able to run well through the establishment of institutions that regulate constitutional rules. The collaboration between the Government (as the user of environmental service) and farmers (as the service provider) should be declared and fully understood before the scheme is implemented. Therefore, full participation of all related parties was crucial in achieving the program’s goals. Collective understanding of the need to prevent land conversion and the coordination of stakeholders needs to be carried out sustainably."
