"Pemilihan Gubernur DKI Jakarta tahun 2012 merupakan salah satu pemilihan kepala daerah yang menjadi target utama untuk dapat dikuasai oleh setiap partai politik, termasuk PDI Perjuangan. Status dan posisi DKI Jakarta yang sangat strategis membuat seluruh elit PDI Perjuangan turut terlibat dalam memberikan usulan-usulan sikap. Masuknya berbagai usulan sikap diinternal PDI Perjuangan tentunya menimbulkan dinamika politik tersendiri disana selain faktor lainnya yang berasal dari luar PDI Perjuangan. Dinamika politik yang berkembang diinternal PDI Perjuangan dilatarbelakangi oleh pertimbangan elit-elit yang menginginkan peran partai yang dominan (sebagai Cagub) dan menguntungkan di Pilgub tersebut. Elit yang diwakili Megawati menginginkan mengusung kadernya sendiri sebagai Cagub sedangkan elit yang diwakili Taufiq Kiemas menginginkan PDI Perjuangan mengambil peran yang juga menguntungkan lainnya dengan berkoalisi dengan incumbent sebagai Cawagub. Munculnya dua pertimbangan sikap ini sangat terkait dengan berbagai faktor seperti perolehan kursi legislatif PDI Perjuangan di DKI Jakarta, evaluasi kepemimpinan gubernur sebelumnya, pertimbangan politik untuk tahun 2014, dan sebagainya. Perkembangan situasi politik di DKI Jakarta turut mempengaruhi semakin kencangnya perdebatan diinternal PDI Perjuangan saat itu, terutama saat beberapa partai politik telah mengarahkan sikap politiknya kepada partai besar lain. Penelitian ini menemukan banyak faktor politik yang melatarbelakangi dan menjadi pertimbangan PDI Perjuangan dalam proses penentuan Cagub yang diusung. Pada akhirnya PDI Perjuangan mengusung figur Joko Widodo sebagai Cagub untuk Pilgub DKI Jakarta tahun 2012. Keputusan mencalonkan Jokowi tentu sangat menarik untuk dilihat karena PDI Perjuangan telah ‘berani’ untuk mengajukan figur yang belum mengenal kondisi sosial dan politik di DKI Jakarta saat itu.

The 2012 election for DKI Jakarta Governor is a main target of every political parties, including the PDI Perjuangan. The strategic status and position of DKI Jakarta prompted all PDI Perjuangan elites to involve in underlining their stances. The infusion of many opinions in the PDI Perjuangan internal ignited distinctive political dynamics therein besides other external factors. The source of this political dynamics is the consideration of the party elites who intended the domination of mutual dominant party role (as candidate). Elites who were represented by Megawati intended to field their own proteges as candidate while other elites who were represented by Taufiq Kiemas intended the party to form a coalition with the incumbent by fielding the PDI Perjuangan candidate as the candidate of vice governor. This political division is related to the legislative chair won by the PDI Perjuangan in Jakarta, the evaluation in the leadership of the incumbent, political consideration for 2014 General Election, etc. The development of political situation in DKI Jakarta also influenced the internal disputes, especially when several lesser political parties showed that they had the intention of joiningnother major parties. The thesis finds many political factors which constituted the background of PDI Perjuangan’s consideration in determining the party’s candidate. Eventually, the PDI Perjuangan fielded Joko Widodo as the governor candidate during the 2012 Governor Election. The decision to field Joko Widodo is very interesting to be researched because the PDI Perjuangan eventually showed its bravery to field a figure who didn’t master the political and social of DKI Jakarta at the time."
