ABSTRACT
This study discusses the exploration of media effects, specifically Microsoft PowerPoint using tetrad of media effects concept with the aim of mapping the effects that are not visible (ground) or visible (figure). This study uses qualitative research methods with a phenomenological approach to the Basic Sundanese Language Class of the Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Indonesia. Data collection in this study used non-participant observation techniques and semi-structured interviews (in-depth) on six informants consisting of two lecturers and four students. The results of the study show the role of PowerPoint in constructing concept-based language learning and practicing personal learning methods. This study also found a reduced relevance of non digital media in assisting learning. In terms of media construction, PowerPoint is perceived as able to restore some of the media functions that exist in its era such as inscriptions, OHPs, gutenberg printing machines to less is more phrase. In addition, excessive use of PowerPoint has the potential to inhibit the formation of a conducive learning process and have several more negative side effects. This study also found three factors caused the tetrad effect to differ from the point of view of lecturers and students, which are power, history, and audience centric."

"Today's supercritical audiences demand you speak with impact and deliver your PowerPoints with flair. "Speak like Churchill, Present like Spielberg" shows readers how to seamlessly integrate their words and PowerPoints into a persuasive experience. As Gary White, CEO of Presentation Pro puts it: 'The timing for the book couldn't be better, as Microsoft is launching a major makeover of Office 2007 later this year. The biggest change will be in the way PowerPoint creates graphics and presentations. PowerPoint presenters will be looking for help on how to create and use stunning graphics and visuals.' [Excerpted from a letter from Gary White, attached below in the "Comments" section.] The book is divided into two parts. Part I lays out "The Seven Steps to Presentation Success" (i.e., the "Churchill" part); and, Part II is about how to design and deliver more persuasive PowerPoints."
