Latar Belakang. ......Background. The importance of the protective role of adequate keratinized mucosa (KM) around an implant as a soft tissue seal in maintaining a barrier against bacterial penetration that can cause peri-implant disease is still being debated due to inconsistentresults. Aim. To determine the relationship between the width of the keratinized mucosa around the implant with brushing discomfort and peri-implant tissue clinically and radiographically. Method. This cross-sectional study evaluates 17 patients (31implants) at the periodontic specialist clinic, RSKGM FKG UI. The sample group was divided into adequate and inadequate KM groups. Patients were clinically examined using score mPI, DI and GI on the buccal site of the implant, and periapical radiographs were taken to evaluate marginal bone level (MBL). Brushing discomfort was assessed using a visual analogue scale (VAS). Results. The comparison between the two groups with a numerical scale was tested using an independent t-test. There were significant differences in (0.01), DI (0.03), and GI (0.05) between the two groups. However, there was no significant difference for brushing discomfort (0.88) and MBL (0.46). Conclusion. Inadequate KM is associated with increased accumulation of plaque, debris, and mucosal inflammation around the implant.

......Acute Lymphoblast Leukemia is a type of cancer that is mostly found in children in Indonesia. Chemotherapy is one of the effective treatments for treating acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Apart from providing a healing effect, chemotherapy also has toxic effects. Mucositis is a side effect of chemotherapy that is commonly found in children undergoing chemotherapy. Prevention and management of oral complications is needed to improve the quality of life of children. One of the prevention and treatment is oral care. Oral care involves four main components namely, toothbrush, rinsing, flossing, and lip care. This study aims to determine the relationship between oral care and the incidence of mucositis. The research design used a cross sectional design with a sample size of 34 children who were selected by the snowball sampling method. The measuring instruments used were the Oral Assessment Guide (OAG) and the oral care questionnaire developed by the researcher. Data analysis using Chi-square. The results showed that most children had mucositis after undergoing the last chemotherapy cycle (51.5%). The results of statistical tests showed a significant relationship between oral care and the incidence of mucositis (p = 0.039). The results of this study recommend the awareness of children and parents to carry out routine oral care which is useful in preventing and treating mucositis.

Indonesian Journal of Dentistry 2006; Edisi Khusus KPPIKG XIV: 7-11 Mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP) is an autoimmune mucocutaneous blistering disease characterized by autoantibodies to components within the basement membrane zone. The lesions may produce risk of scarring of the canthus (symblepharon), inversion of the eyelashes (entropion) and trauma to the cornea (trichiasis). We reported a case of MMP in a 56-year old female with diabetes mellitus and hypertension whose ocular involvement has lead to blindness of the right eye. The diagnosis MMP was base on the history and clinical findings in oral medicine department. Management of this patient inclueded the administration of antifungal, corticosteroid ; diaminodiphenylsulfone, nutritional supplementation. oral hygiene promotion and consultation to internal medicine specialist and opthalmologis. The improvement of oral lesions progressed well within five months. we conclude that optimal improvement can be reached by comprehesieve management with controlling systemic factors and good cooperation between medical team and patient. and patien

ABSTRACT
Although basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is a common skin tumor, very rare cases of BCC arising from upper vermilion mucosa of lip have been reported previously. This tumor basically, originates from pillar structures and the involvement of the vermilion lip contrasts this concept so it is devoid of hair follicles and sweat glands. The exact pathogenesis of vermilion lip BCC is not clear but it has been postulated that the neoplasm originates from the pluripotential epithelial cells of the oral mucosa and epidermis. On the other hand, some authors consider their origin from ectopic sebaceous glands. Herein, we report a 34- year-old man with an asymptomatic ulcerated lesion on the upper left lip vermilion mucosa .The diagnosis of BCC was confirmed with histopathological examination after incisional biopsy of the mucosal neoplasm. After surgery of lip lesion, no recurrency was seen after 3 months follow-up the patient.

This volume is focused on the development of vaccines which generate immune effectors capable of blocking mucosal entry or peripheral pathogen spread. Other chapters describe strategies for enhancing uptake of mucosal vaccines, for instance through targeted delivery to antigen-sampling M cells, construction of virus-like particles which mimic natural pathogens, addition of mucoadhesives or formulation as nanoparticles. Topics include edible vaccines as well as plant-based production of subunit or particulate vaccines that could be administered by any route. Dry powder vaccines that could be insufflated or directly applied to mucosal surfaces may be particularly ideal for mass vaccination in developing countries. The manufacture, stability and efficacy of powder formulations is comprehensively reviewed. We conclude with chapters on two of the greatest challenges facing mucosal vaccine development : human immunodeficiency virus and bioterrorist agents. This monograph highlights progress and information that should prove invaluable for the development of contemporary vaccines that prevent infection by these and other mucosal pathogens.

Mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP) also known as cicatricial pemphigoid is a chronic autoimmune subepithelial blistering disease primarily affecting people over 50 years old. MMP may affect any mucosal surface which is particularly oral mucosal, conjungtiva, esophagus, or larinx is involved. MMP rarely occurs in children and adolescents, but several cases of MMP affecting 2 to 18 years old patients have been reported in previous studies. In this paper we reported a case of MMP in an eighteen year old male patient who had been diagnosed with oral mucous membrane pemphigoid by anamnesis, clinical feature, histopathology. The patient was treated with systemic corticosteroid, topical corticosteroid, oral rinse and multivitamins. Until recently corticosteroid remains as the most effective and the drug of choice to treat pemphigoid lesions. Clinicians need to pay attention in using this drug because of its potential side effect.
