"Penelitian-penelitian sebelumnya melaporkan bahwa paparan terhadap pandangan yang berlawanan bisa menyebabkan polarisasi politik atau depolarisasi politik. Terdapat penelitian lain yang menunjukkan bahwa semakin tingginya need for closure seseorang maka akan semakin konservatif ideologinya. Dari penjelasan tersebut, peneliti menduga bahwa pengaruh paparan berita yang berbeda pandangan terhadap polarisasi politik dimoderasi oleh need for closure. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji apakah pengaruh paparan terhadap pandangan politik yang berlawanan dipengaruhi oleh need for closure. Untuk menjawab pertanyaan penelitian, studi kuasi-eksperimental mixed design dengan 69 partisipan pendukung Jokowi dan Prabowo. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa paparan terhadap pandangan yang berlawanan tidak memengaruhi polarisasi politik. Selain itu, need for closure tidak terbukti dapat memoderasi efek antara paparan terhadap pandangan yang berlawanan terhadap polarisasi politik.

Previous studies show that exposure to opposing views could cause political polarization. There are other studies which show that individual with high need for closure will have conservative ideology. From the explanation above, researcher hypothesized that the effect of exposure to opposing political news on political polarization is moderated by need for closure. The aim of this study is to know the effect of exposure to opposing views on political polarization that is moderated with need for closure. To answer this research question, a quasi experimental study with mixed design is held with 69 participants that consists of Jokowi and Prabowos supporters. The result of this study shows that exposure to opposing views doesnt affect political polarization in a statistically significant way. Also, this study finds that need for closure doesnt moderate the effect of exposure to opposing views on political polarization."
