"ABSTRAKTujuan penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan tindakan ekonomi mahasiswa Unpar Bandung dalam menggunakan kartu kredit. Pendekatan penelitian kualitatif dilakukan dengan menggunakan strategi studi kasus melalui teknik pengumpulan data wawancara mendalam, observasi, dan data sekunder. Hasil penelitian ini menemukan bahwa keputusan penggunaan kartu kredit dilatarbelakangi oleh peran orang tua sebagai agen sosialisasi utama, merebaknya institusi ekonomi yang menawarkan sistem pembayaran dengan menggunakan kartu, jalan-jalan ke mall menjadi gaya hidup mahasiswa, dan pengaruh dari teman sepermainan dan media. Rasionalitas instrumental menjadi dasar atas tindakan penggunaan kartu kredit oleh mahasiswa yang didukung pula oleh rasionalitas nilai. Konsumerise tidak terjadi pada mahasiswa Unpar pengguna kartu kredit karena rasionalitas instrumental yang menjadi dasar pertimbangan mahasiswa yang diperkuat dengan kontrol orang tua atas penggunaan kartu kredit. Terkait dengan peranannya sebagai mahasiswa secara fungsional tidak dibutuhkan oleh mahasiswa. Kartu kredit digunakan sebagai alat pemenuhan kebutuhan sosial, pemenuhan kebutuhan material, dan alat pengaman finansial.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to describe economic action of Unpar students in using a credit card. Qualitative research approach carried out by using case study through data collection techniques-depth interviews, observations, and secondary data. In this study, the decision of using credit card caused by parent as the main socialization agent, economic institutions that offer a payment system using the card, hang out in mall as the student life style, peer group and media influence. Instrumental oriented rationality becomes base of actions of credit card usage by students which is also supported by the value oriented rationality. Consumerism doesn't occur in Unpar student who using credit card because instrumental oriented rationality is reinforced by parent control over the use of credit cards. Relating student as a primary role credit card functionally is not required by the student. Credit cards are used as a means of fulfillment social needs, fulfillment of material needs, and financial safety devices."
