Abstrak :
Penelitian ini membahas mengenai perubahan doktrin yang terjadi dalam Angkatan Darat AS pasca perang Vietnam. Doktrin yang mengalami perubahan adalah doktrin tempur AS pada tahun 1962 menjadi doktrin tempur baru yang ada pada tahun 1976. Dalam proses pelaksanaan penelitian, digunakan berbagai dokumen yang berkaitan dengan perubahan doktrin dan peperangan di Vietnam yang didapatkan melalui arsip khusus Angkatan Darat Amerika Serikat serta berbagai karya tulis yang dihasilkan oleh perwira menengah yang menempuh pendidikan di Sekolah Staf Komando (US Army Command and General Staff College). Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode sejarah yaitu heuristik, kritik sumber, interpretasi, dan historiografi. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini merupakan pendekatan strukturis yang melihat peranan dan kontribusi William DePuy sebagai agen perubahan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengidentifikasi lebih lanjut mengenai adanya perubahan doktrin yang terjadi pasca berakhirnya Perang Vietnam dan dampaknya terhadap Angkatan Darat AS secara keseluruhan. Dalam penelitian ini, didapatkan kesimpulan bahwa reorganisasi yang terjadi merupakan sebuah proses berkelanjutan yang dimulai dengan pembentukan US Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) yang kemudian menyusun doktrin baru terkait dengan perekrutan pasukan serta perubahan yang berkaitan dengan doktrin pertempuran di darat. Doktrin ini terkumpul dalam sebuah panduan yang dinamakan dengan FM 100-5. Peranan komandan pertama TRADOC yang bernama William DePuy kemudian menjadi salah satu faktor penting dalam proses pergantian doktrin tempur setelah berakhirnya perang Vietnam. ......This research discusses the changes in doctrine that occurred in the US Army after the Vietnam war. The new doctrine that changed was the combat doctrine from 1962 to the new combat doctrine from 1976. In the process of conducting research, various documents relating to changes in doctrine and war in Vietnam obtained through the Special Archives of the United States Army as well as various papers produced by officer who study at the US Army Command and General Staff College. The methods used in this study are historical methods namely heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The approach used in this research is based on historical structurism referring to William DePuy’s role and contribution as an agent of change. The purpose of this study is to identify further changes in the doctrine that occurred after the end of the Vietnam War and its impact on the US Army as a whole. In this study, it was concluded that the reorganization that occurred was an ongoing process that began with the formation of the US Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) which then compiled a new doctrine related to the recruitment of troops and changes related to the doctrine of ground battle. This doctrine is collected in a guide called FM 100-5. The role of Tradoc's first commander named William Depuy then became one of the important factors in the process of changing the doctrine of combat after the end of the Vietnam War.
