......An assessment of water quality in Saluran Tarum Barat has been conducted at three stations representing the beginning, middle, and end of the canal from February until May 2017. This research aimed to determine the quality of Saluran Tarum Barat using benthic macroinvertebrates as bioindicator through Biological Monitoring Working Party Average Score Per Taxon BMWP ASPT method. Not only samples of organisms were taken, but environmental parameter also measure.
The results obtained were six families of macroinvertebrates namely Naucoridae, Viviparidae, Parathelphusidae, Pisauridae, Palaemonidae, and Thiaridae. However, Parathelphusidae and Pisauridae families are not covered in BMWP scoring list. Saluran Tarum Barat has ASPT range from 4,25 ndash 4,5 which categorized as moderate pollution."

"This research was carried out to investigate the efficiencies of leachate treatment by using
subsurface flow constructed wetland (CW) with low permeable reactive media and guinea grass
(Panicum maximum TD 58). Pilot scale CW was examined at hydraulic loading rate (HLR) of
0.028 m/d and hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 10 d. Two different types of media in CW were
used i.e. system 1: clay and sand mixture at ratio of 40:60 (%w/W) and system 2: clay, iron sludge
and sand mixture at ratio of 30: 10:60 (%w/w). The results showed that the performance of system 2
was better in terms of pollutant removal efficiencies. Average BOD, COD and TKN removals were
76.1, 68.5 and 73.5% respectively. Methane, carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide emissions during the
treatment of CW were 23.2-52.1, 69.1-601.8 and 0.04-0.99 mymzd respectively. The use of CW
with reactive media in system 2 and vegetation resulted in lower GHG emissions. The results show
that CW with low permeable reactive media could be effectively used to remediate leachate from
the landfill site."

"In this study, a three-dimensional (3D) hydrodynamic model was developed to investigate the Water
circulation characteristics of a shallow tropical lake environment (Laguna Lake, Philippines) under
varying wind stress, watershed river discharge, and sea interaction (Manila Bay, Philippines) to
elucidate hydrodynamic implications to eutrophic vulnerability. The analyses were based on field
observations and numerical simulations covering longterm periods (dry and wet season) and
intensive field measurements. The results demonstrated different circulation pattems and vertical
current regimes in time and space that accentuated a thermally stratified lake environment in spite
of a shallow water depth (2.5 meter average). In the wet season, current movement is generally
toward Pasig River, the lake’s only outlet, with embayment water mass moving in the clockwise
direction. The dry season lake flow pattern was characterized by counter-clockwise gyre
circulations, Pasig River backflow, and salinity intrusion. Wind forces showed strong influence on
lake hydrodynamics due to the complex surrounding topography, steep land-ake thermal
difference, regular passage of tropical storms and typhoons, and shifts in the monsoon wind
direction. The resulting mixed layer hydrodynamics revealed important implications to the
planktonic movement, nutrient recycling, and primary production of the lake. Long term
continuous observations and numerical analyses also demonstrated the intrusion of seawater to
Laguna Lake that potentially adds to its eutrophic vulnerability with the associated entry of nutrient
and microorganism-rich polluted waters from Metro Manila."

"The book is an attempt to initiate a comprehensive environmental security assessment in the basin of the Azov Sea, shared by Russia and Ukraine. At the same time there is an alarming degradation rate of basin freshwater ecosystems that has occurred due to overutilization of certain prioritized services (e.g. transportation). In addition to the review of the current status of Azov ecosystem services, the authors analyze likely future availability and challenges. The relevant experience derived from basin management of the Black Sea and other similar basins is also discussed."

"Preceding monitoring reports indicated that di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), a common
plasticizer, was found in the samples of suspended sediment and water collected from the lower
part of Chao Phraya River. In this continuing study, the suspended sediment and water samples
from the Chao Phraya Delta were collected twice a year in January and July during January 201 1 -
July 2013. The analyses were performed for both DEHP and Diethyl Phthalate (DEP). Overall
results showed that concentrations of both DEHP and DEP in the water samples were relatively
higher than those in the suspended sediment samples. The concentrations of DEHP and DEP from
all sampling periods in the water samples ranged from 1.58 - 27.55 pg/L and from 0.64 - 2.59
ug/L, respectively, whereas the concentrations of DEHP and DEP from all sampling periods in the
suspended sediment samples ranged from 0.01 - 26.82 mg/g and from 0.01 - 1.93 mg/g,
respectively. The concentrations of both DEHP and DEP in both suspended sediment and water
samples were relatively higher in the samples collected during lower discharge period of the Chao
Phraya River in July. The results indicated that sediment transport system could play an important
role in the dispersion of both DEHP and DEP. The ecological risk assessment indicated that for the
current level of contaminations the risk did not exceed the acceptable level."

"Where the dragon meets the Angry River is an incisive look at the possible fates of China and the planet. Will the Nujiang River continue to flow? Will Tibetan girls from subsistence farming families learn to read and write? Can China and the United States come together to lead action on climate change? Far-reaching in its history and scope, this unique book shows us the real-world consequences of conservation and development decisions now being made in Beijing and beyond."
