This undergraduate thesis examines about forms of gender inequality in Japan and focusing on matahara or maternity harassment that happens on Japanese work environment. The writer uses radical feminism theories to analyze how Japanese culture relates with maternity harassment. The analysis shows that patriarchy in Japanese society is not the main cause of maternity harassment. It is economic factor which becomes the main factor of maternity harassment in Japanese companies. Maternity harassment and economy corresponds to each other because maternity harassment causes the declining of youth population and this declining population causes Japan economy stuck in a stagnant condition.

ABSTRACT
The work environment in Japan has traditionally been shaped by a large gap between the gender roles of men and women. Communities in Japan often provide demands for women to fulfill the role of mother in the household, the role of a dedicated career woman, or a combination of both. Therefore, women often get pressure even get harassed or harassment in their workplace. On this research, writer will explain about radical feminism by Osakabe Sayaka who is fighting against Maternity Harassment in Japan. The theory that will be used on this research is the theory of radical feminism according to Tong, Crawford Unger and Firestone. Through this theory, Osakabe 39 s movement against the ldquo Matahara rdquo can be seen as a fight against male mastery of women 39 s sexual and reproductive lives. In this study we will found that Osakabe rsquo s movement can be said as a manifestation of radical feminism."
