Ilmu pragmatik sebagai bagian dari ilmu linguistik mulai berkembang di Indonesia pada awal tahun 70-an. Walaupun sudah berjalan sekitar 20 tahun belum banyak orang yang menulis maupun yang membuat penelitian mengenai pragmatik.
