"Pengamatan GPS secara berkala dan periodik merupakan salah satu cara untuk dapat mendeteksi dan mempelajari geodinamika bumi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan karakteristik geometrik dan kajian tektonik dari gerakan dinamika antara pulau Sumatera dan Jawa dengan studi kasus Selat Sunda. Data dasar yang digunakan adalah data pengamatan terhadap satelit GPS yang pengamatannya dilakukan pada tahun 1993, 1994 dan 1996. Proses analisis dengan mengikutsertakan data dari stasiun penjejak tetap IGS. Berdasarkan karakteristik dari sebaran vektor, pergerakan relatif di Sumatera bervariasi antara 28 mm hingga 64 mm/thn, dengan azimuth rata - rata 74°. Untuk pulau Jawa mempunyai laju perubahan antara 39 mm hingga 44 mm/thn dengan azimuth 82°. Dengan berdasarkan indikator (geometris) dari perubahan arah dari blok Jawa dan Sumatera tersebut memberikan indikasi bahwa di kawasan Selat Sunda terjadi peregangan (extension)."
