diberi tekanan waktu. Riset ini menggunalan 36 murid dari The University of Queensland kampus
dilakukan.

ABSTRACT
Time pressure might affect the occurrence of social loafing. Therefore, this study has an aim to
investigate whether social loafing occur in condition where participants had time pressure. This
study conducted among 36 students from The University of Queensland St Lucia campus with 2x2
between group design where the participants were asked to do the task individually (coactive) or
collectively in either under time pressure or non-time pressure. The study would measure whether
the participants engage in social loafing by looking how many similar words found in the result.
An independent t-test result revealed that there was no significant difference between collective
and coactive work, t (1,34) = -1.77, p = .086. Moreover, non-significant result also found between
collective participants under non-time pressure with collective participant under time-pressure, t
(1,34) = 0.97 p = .350, this was possible because the task given to the participant was too
interesting. This indicate that time pressure did not always affect social loafing, especially when
the task is interesting. Further research about time pressure and social loafing experiment with task
that was not too interesting for the participants is highly recommended.

Hasil dari penelitian ini mengindikasi bahwa budaya individualistik barat menunjukkan performa kerja lebih baik dibanding budaya kolektivis timur ketika ditempatkan pada kondisi kelompok kerja koaktifABSTRACTThis research is done to investigate the differences in social loafing between Asians students from various Asian countries and Australian students.

Many people avoid working in groups because they do not want to encounter ‘free-riders’ or ‘social-loafers’. The current study aimed to investigate the effects of verbal encouragement on social loafing. Using a 2x2 independent-groups design, 40 university students participated in the study and were asked to generate as many ideas as possible about the different uses of a spoon. Participants were sorted to either collective (i.e., participants are working together) or coactive (i.e., participants are working individually) group, and to either an encouragement present (i.e., participants were given encouraging words) or an encouragement absent group (i.e., participants were not given encouraging words). Independent-group t-tests revealed that participants in collective condition generated fewer ideas than those in coactive condition, suggesting that social loafing has occurred. There is no difference between collective-encouragement present and collective-encouragement absent conditions. This suggests that verbal encouragement might not serve to moderate social loafing. Future research should take participants’ initial intrinsic and extrinsic motivations and their perceived task difficulty into consideration."
