Abstrak :
In the past decade, the relationship between patient choice and clinical decision making has been seen as increasingly significant by healthcare systems around the globe. This 3rd edition of Shared Decision Making in Health Care addresses important developments in this area, including the placing of shared decision making (SDM) at the centre of the US 2009 Affordable Care Act by Obamacare. This resource examines what makes an effective decision-making process from both theoretical and practical viewpoints, and the benefits and obstacles arising in shared patient-clinician decision making. It begins by putting shared decision making in a real-world context, examining its role in customized rather than commercialized healthcare, and in the achievement of allocative efficiency in health systems. It then provides theoretical and practical information for clinicians on the inclusion of patients in decision making and teaching SDM. Research is presented using systematic reviews and case studies to provide an understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of preparing for, developing, and implementing SDM. The resource then relates SDM to broader issues such as health inequalities and quality improvement, and ends by examining ways in which SDM can be promoted by different population groups.

This book investigates the ways in which the evidence base is influencing complementary and alternative medicine in general and Ayurveda and allied health practices in particular. The latter have traditionally been prevalent in Asia and are now increasingly attracting interest worldwide. The book is divided into four sections, the first of which examines issues related to acquisition and evaluation of the evidence base. Evidence-based approaches to Ayurvedic diagnosis and therapy are then examined, with a special focus on management of cardiovascular and rheumatological diseases, dental care, and rejuvenating treatments. The final section explores further the challenges of applying evidence-based practice in contemporary and alternative medicine and Ayurveda with a focus upon the issues requiring urgent attention in ongoing decade. The same involves encompassing areas such as Ayurvedic pharmaceutics, practice, education and research within an evidence-based perspective.

This book employs a cased-based format similar to the earlier Krings book, Case-Based Interventional Neuroradiology. After describing a clinical scenario the relevant anatomic structure or variation will be described and explained (embryological background) and its impact on treatment decisions and treatment modalities are explained. Potential complications that may arise if not properly recognized are indentified. Images of other similar cases are added to show the spectrum of the anatomy and its variations. References to the pertinent literature are provided for each case. Cases are grouped to allow for smooth reading cover to cover and at the same time to quickly get one up to speed prior to performing a procedure where one encounters a similar variation.
