"A companion to Embedded Generation by Nick Jenkins and his colleagues, this book is a timely publication for an evolving industry. Renewable energy, ancillary services and deregulation of the power industry are changing electricity delivery networks. Microgrids, smart grids and active distribution networks require a sound understanding of the basic concepts, generation technologies, impacts, operation, control and management, economic viability and market participation involved in grid integration.
Practicing engineers in utilities and industry, researchers and students will appreciate this lucid description of the technologies that will enable future electricity systems."

"In this book the authors first provide a comprehensive survey on the available studies on control, management, and optimization strategies in AC and DC microgrids. The authors then provide the design of a laboratory-scale microgrid system. Finally, a real-world implementation of the deigned framework is provided. This book paves the way for researchers working on the smart microgrids spread over the fields of electrical engineering, power systems, and smart infrastructures. Furthermore, it provides the readers with a comprehensive insight to understand an in-depth big picture of smart microgrids as well as an all-inclusive framework for laboratory-scale implementation of a microgrid. It is suitable for senior undergraduate students, graduate students who are interested in research in areas related to future smart grids and microgrids, and the researchers working in the related areas. This book also can be used as a reference book for researchers who want to develop laboratories on smart microgrids for future research."

Nowadays the used of renewable energy into power system continuously increase. The increasing penetration of renewable energy into the power system of small-scale or stand-alone systems, have the potential to cause disruption in the stability and quality of the system. This happens because the intermittent or unstable characteristics of renewable energy, its can not be controlled or regulated, depending on the nature or weather. But nowadays has developed technology that is appropriate to address the issues of stability and reliability, the system is Smart Microgrids. Smart microgrids system is a system of generation, distribution, and use of electrical energy from renewable energy sources.
This study discussed the system design of Smart Microgrids from solar energy. This system consists of 1,280 kWp of PV modules, 12x75AhC10, PV Inverter, and Bidirectional Inverter, with the burden of the simulation of programmable RLC Load. The system was tested for its performance and then will be optimization by adding generator set as a backup energy source. Optimizing result of this Smart Microgrid isolated system is able to improve system stability and power quality. For systems lifetime 15 years, the cost of energy from this system ranged Rp.2.934, -/kWh, cheaper than government regulation cost (Rp.3.000,0/kwH)."

"The main objective of this book is to provide a multidisciplinary overview of methodological approaches, architectures, platforms, and algorithms for the realization of an Internet of Things (IoT)-based Smart Urban Ecosystem (SUE). Moreover, the book details a set of real-world applications and case studies related to specific smart infrastructures and smart cities, including structural health monitoring, smart urban drainage networks, smart grids, power efficiency, healthcare, city security, and emergency management.
A Smart Urban Ecosystem (SUE) is a people-centric system of systems that involves smart city environments, applications, and infrastructures. SUEs require the close integration of cyber and physical components for monitoring, understanding and controlling the urban environment. In this context, the Internet of Things (IoT) offers a valuable enabling technology, as it bridges the gap between physical things and software components, and empowers cooperation between distributed, pervasive, and heterogeneous entities."
