"Location based service atau LBS adalah kemampuan untuk mencari lokasi geografis dari mobile device dan menyediakan layanan informasi berdasarkan lokasi keberadaan mobile device tersebut . Implementasi LBS sudah mulai dilakukan di Indonesia, namun dalam skala yang tidak terlalu besar. LBS ini diterapkan dengan menggunakan jaringan GSM yang dipunyai oleh operator GSM. Model penerapan ini memiliki beberapa kelemahan, yaitu mahalnya biaya pengembangan infrastrukturnya, kemampuan pelacakan lokasi yang memiliki tingkat keakuratan rendah (10 Km), dan tidak mampu digunakan di dalam ruangan tertutup. Tugas akhir ini bermaksud untuk mengusulkan sebuah solusi sistem LBS yang tidak memiliki kelemahan-kelemahan tersebut diatas dan sekaligus mampu dioperasikan dalam ruangan tertutup. Solusi yang diajukan adalah sebuah sistem LBS yang menggunakan Bluetooth dan web service. Sensor Bluetooth digunakan untuk mendeteksi keberadaan seseorang yang memiliki telepon seluler, sedangkan metode location sensing atau pelacakan lokasi yang digunakan adalah metode proximity. Teknologi web service digunakan di sisi penyedia layanan informasi. Performa yang diukur selama pengujian ditunjukkan oleh tingkat response time. Response time diukur dari saat pengguna meminta layanan sampai dengan layanan tersebut ditampilkan di layar telepon selulernya. Seluruh pengujian menunjukkan bahwa permintaan layanan informasi dan lokasi dari pengguna berhasil untuk dieksekusi. Pengujian response time yang memiliki hasil paling baik adalah sebesar 20,72 detik. Sedangkan hasil yang paling buruk adalah 44,64 detik. Walaupun pengujian yang dilakukan belum memberikan cerminan lingkungan nyata dengan baik, hasil dari pengujian sistem LBS ini memberikan indikasi baik bahwa sistem ini dapat digunakan di dalam lingkungan tertutup."
