"Optical Ring Resonators (ORR), whether based on fiber optics or an optical micro ring on substrate structures have been studied and explored extensively to be used for optical sensor applications. The outstanding advantage of optical ring resonator structure is its spectral response shape change due to the variations of the refractive index of the surrounding medium, medium loss due to absorption and scattering, and coupling loss between waveguides in the optical ring structure. The change of spectral response due to the variations of optical medium on the optical ring structure is a phenomenon that can be used to sense the optical property change of physical or biological materials. Some developments of Waveguide (WG) ORR sensors are in progress mostly for bio-sensor applications, since it is free from Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) and is non-physically destructive. In this paper, we discuss our research in developing optical bio-sensor in the form of a WG optical ring resonator. The focus of the research is optimizing the coupling region as sensing area to obtain the optimal coupling coefficient for the most sensitive sense. The results show that the variations of coupling coefficient is not linear with respect to the resonant peak output, such that we are able to locate the most sensitive coupling coefficient to sense."

ABSTRAKPencegahan selalu lebih baik dari pengobatan. Wabah penyakit sering kali terjadi karena kurangnya kepekaan manusia untuk menjaga dirinya dari penyakit. Kurangnya alat yang praktis dan akurat pun merupakan salah satu penyebab terjadinya wabah. Perangkat diagnosis penyakit yang mahal dan metode pendeteksian yang rumit membuat masyarakat pada daerah terpencil sulit mendapatkan kejelasan mengenai kesehatannya serta lingkungannya. Atas dasar hal tersebut, fabrikasi sensor penyakit dibutuhkan. Metode fabrikasi yang paling praktis, murah, dan mudah menjadi landasan penelitian ini. Teknologi cetak sablon untuk fabrikasi elektroda dan sirkuit kelistrikan sudah umum dilakukan. Akan tetapi mesin pencetak yang mahal dan sulit didapat kembali menjadi hambatan. Ide penelitian ini adalah meneliti deviasi dimensi fabrikasi serta kelayakan elektroda sensor yang difabrikasi menggunakan metode cetak sablon konvensional dengan harapan fabrikasi sensor medis dapat dilakukan dengan mudah.
ABSTRACTPrevention act is always better than treatment. Low awareness in term of disease prevention eases virus or bacteria to attack human body. Lack of practical and accurate detection system also make certain kind of diseases rise into surface. Costly diagnostic devices put more pressure onto society to get them medically checked frequently. Based on that idea, a simple fabrication technique for fabricating the electrochemical detector is needed. Those characteristics of fabrication method is the main topic for this research. Screen printing method for fabricating electrodes and electrical circuits are now common throughout the world. Still, a screen printing machine isn rsquo t cheap. Therefore, this research had been conducted with the intention to test whether conventional screen printing technique is able to fabricate a good quality electrode. By then, electrochemical detector will be possible to be fabricated easily. Dimension deviation caused by the fabrication processes and main functional test with cyclic voltammetry will be the main study in this research."
