"Gereja Katolik sebagai bangunan ibadah penganut agama Katolik sudah berdiri lama sejak masa kolonialisme bangsa Portugis dan Belanda di Pulau Jawa, namun pada masa awal pemerintahan Belanda, praktik agama Katolik sempat dihentikan dan kemudian pada abad ke-19 mulai berkembang lagi pasca pergantian tahta Raja Belanda. Setelah pergantian tahta oleh raja yang beragama Katolik, barulah didirikan gereja-gereja Katolik berukuran besar. Gereja Katolik yang dibangun pada abad ke-19 dan ke-20 tersebar di beberapa kota besar di Pulau Jawa, di dalamnya terdapat kaca patri sebagai komponen utama gereja Katolik. Kaca patri dapat berfungsi sebagai ornament atau sebagai alat untuk mempelajari agama. Kaca patri yang ada di dalam gereja Katolik ini menjadi daya tarik utama penelitian yang dilakukan untuk mengetahui dan mengidentifikasi isi keragaman penggambaran dari kaca-kaca patri yang ada di gereja-gereja Katolik di pulau Jawa yang didirikan pada masa kolonialisme. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat berbagai ragam penggambaran pada kaca patri yaitu motif tumbuhan, hewan, dan antropomorfik, yang semua itu merupakan penggambaran yang berhubungan dengan isi Alkitab baik kitab Perjanjian Lama maupun Perjanjian Baru. Selain itu terdapat juga penggambaran yang tidak berdasarkan Alkitab namun berkaitan dengan teologi Katolik dan ada pula penggambaran yang mengandung unsur lokal (Jawa) yang maknanya belum dapat dipastikan hubungannya dengan teologi Katolik.......Catholic church as a place where the Catholics pray or having a sermon has been built since the colonialism era of the Portuguese and the Dutch within Java Island. In the early years of the Dutch governance, the practice of Catholicism was banned from public until the early of 19th century when a Catholic King in the Netherlands had claimed the throne, and so after that, the practice of Catholicism being brought back to the surface within the Dutch colony and the construction of Catholic church is permitted. The Catholic church that built in Java Island in 19th and 20th century are spread across the island. Inside it has stained glasses as one of the main components of Catholic church whether it is for an ornament or one of media for learning the religion. The stained glasses inside the Catholic church are the main topic of the research to understand and to identify all the variety of the contents of the stained glasses. The results shows that there are various of drawings related to Catholic theology which was brought from the Old Testament and the New Testament. There are also drawings that are not derived from the Bible but related with Catholic theology, nevertheless there are also various depiction of local (Javanese) elements that its meaning are not yet being confirmed and determined in the relation to Catholic theology."
