"Studi ini mengeksplor mengenai anteseden dan keefektifan penerapan Ambidextrous Strategy (AS) sebagai prediktor sustainabilitas perusahaan (FS). Dalam model penelitian, AS dihipotesiskan dipengaruhi oleh Kompleksitas Kognisi Organisasional (OCC), Environmental Dynamism (ED), dan moderasi ED terhadap OCC. Studi ini mengangkat Industri Penyiaran Televisi FTA sebagai obyek penelitian dengan tren konvergensi media dan digital TV sebagai konteks ED. Pengolahan dilakukan dengan menggunakan Partial Least Square-Path Modelling (PLS-PM). Metode ini dipilih karena (1) Minimnya jumlah sampel penelitian (2) Model yang relatif kompleks dengan adanya higher-order latent, dan, (3) Kesesuaian dengan tujuan penelitian. Hasil dari penelitian ini mendukung hipotesis bahwa OCC dan ED berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap penerapan Ambidextrous Strategy. Namun, ED ternyata melemahkan hubungan antara OCC dengan AS dan pengaruhnya tidak terbukti signifikan. Penerapan Ambidextrous Strategy terbukti efektif memprediksi sustainability stasiun televisi dalam tren konvergensi media dan digital TV.

This study aims to explore the antecedents of Ambidextrous Strategy (AS) and its practices as the predictor of firm sustainability. Organizational Cognitive Complexity (OCC) and Environmental Dynamism (ED) are hypothesized as the antecedents of AS. Furthermore, relationship between OCC and AS is also tested using ED as moderator variable. The study covers only Free To Air TV Broadcating Industry and explores the issues of media convergence and digital TV as the context of ED. Data are processed using Partial Least Square-Path Modelling (PLS-PM). PLS-PM is chosen because of : (1) small sample size (2) relatively complex model with higher order latents, and, (3) appropriate with the objectives of the study. The results of the study partially support all the hypothesises, which, OCC and ED has positive significant effects on Ambidextrous Strategy practices. ED as moderator is surprisingly weaken the relationship between OCC and AS but the moderating effect is not statistically significant. The practice of AS is statistically significant affecting FS, therefore, AS is a good predictor of FS."

"Disertasi ini dimaksudkan untuk meneliti kompleksitas kognitif (cognitive complexity) para pemimpin perusahaan sosial yang mungkin berpengaruh pada kompleksitas perilaku (behavior complexity), berupa paradoks perilaku komersial (commercial behavior) dan perilaku sosial (pro-social behavior). Paradoks ini dapat mempengaruhi performa keberlanjutan (sustainability performance) usaha. Adapun kompleksitas kognitif adalah kemampuan mengelola informasi secara multi dimensi dan/atau situasi bertolak belakang. Secara alamiah paradoks merupakan bagian dari perusahaan sosial. Yakni paradoks tujuan ekonomi dan tujuan sosial. Pemimpin berkompleksitas kognitif tinggi akan memiliki kompetensi tinggi mengelola paradoks tersebut, dipengaruhi kompleksitas lingkungan (environmental complexity) serta motivasi kognitif (cognitive motivation). Motivasi kognitif terdiri atas persepsi diri (self efficacy) kebutuhan atas tantangan (needs for cognition) serta penguasaan diri (personal mastery). Studi dilakukan pada seluruh koperasi masyarakat kehutanan di bawah program pemberdayaan Perhutani yang telah berdiri lebih dari 3 tahun. Yakni sebanyak 189 koperasi di 4 provinsi di Jawa, dengan 561 pemimpinnya sebagai responden. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kompleksitas kognitif berpengaruh positif pada perilaku komersial dan perilaku pro-sosial. Kedua elemen tersebut juga berpengaruh positif pada performa keberlanjutan. Kompleksitas kognitf dipengaruhi oleh kompleksitas lingkungan. Adapun dari tiga elemen motivasi kognitif, hanya kebutuhan atas tantangan (needs for cognition) yang berpengaruh positif pada kompleksitas kognitif. Dia aspek lain, yakni persepsi diri (self efficacy) dan penguasaan diri (personal mastery) tidak berpengaruh nyata.
......This dissertation examines how cognitive complexity of leaders in social enterprises may affect their paradoxical behaviors needed in managing social enterprises, namely commercial and pro-social behaviors. Cognitive complexity is one's ability to construe information in a multidimensional way, including paradoxical situations. The nature of social enterprise is paradoxical in that it needs to deliver both economic and social purposes. The level of leaders' cognitive complexity is associated with ability to demonstrate both commercial and pro-social behaviors. The higher their cognitive complexity is, the higher their commercial and pro-social behaviors are. Furthermore, higher commercial and pro-social behaviors of the leadership team lead to higher sustainability performance of social enterprises. Leaders under this study are leaders of forestry community cooperatives. These cooperatives may be classified as a simple firms in that the role of their leaders may affect the firm's outcomes. Hence, examining the cognitive complexity of the social enterprises' leaders and relating it to the organizational sustainability performance is considered necessary. There are 567 leaders of 189 cooperatives in the study, which represent all cooperatives who have been working for 3 years or more during the research. The result of the study indicate that the cognitive complexity of cooperatives leaders is positively related to both commercial and pro-social behaviors. In addition, it suggests that the higher leadership's team of forestry cooperatives leads to higher sustainability performance of the cooperatives. "
