"[ABSTRACT
Cooperative Principle consists of four maxims which are used as a part in communication. Violating these four maxims means that the speaker has a particular intention. One of the intentions is to create a comical aspect. Humour can be studied pragmatically within the incongruity theory. The focus of this study is to analyze the way maxims can be violated in order to create humour in the comedy TV series Don?t Trust the B--- in Apartment 23. The sitcom tells about the life of mismatched two girls, Chloe and June, who live together in New York City. This research is specifically aimed to examine the way speakers violate maxims and incongruity theory to conduct humour to the audience. The result of this study shows that one from four maxims, maxim of quantity, is rarely violated while the others are likely violated by the characters which are resulting in laughter in the audience.;Cooperative Principle consists of four maxims which are used as a part in communication.
