Abstrak :
Strategi diversifikasi menjadi salah satu alternatif bagi perusahaan dalam menghadapi ketatnya persaingan usaha saat ini. Di sisi lain, strategi tersebut akan meningkatkan kompleksitas perusahaan yang akan memicu timbulnya resiko manajemen laba yang bersumber dari meningkatnya asimetri informasi. Tesis ini membahas mengenai pengaruh diversifikasi usaha terhadap manajemen laba yang terjadi pada perusahaan manufaktur yang tercatat di BEI sejak tahun 2012 sampai tahun 2016. Sampel yang digunakan pada penelitian ini terdiri atas 106 perusahaan yang beroperasi di sektor aneka industri, industri barang konsumsi, serta industri dasar dan kimia. Model regresi yang digunakan adalah pooled least square. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa diversifikasi industri dan kombinasi antara diversifikasi industri dan geografis memiliki pengaruh terhadap manajemen laba riil, sementara diversifikasi geografis tidak berpengaruh terhadap manajemen laba riil. ......Diversification strategy becomes one of the alternatives for the company in facing the tightness of the current business competition. On the other hand, this strategy will increase the complexity of the company that will lead to the risk of earnings management that comes from the increasing of information asymmetry. This thesis discusses the effect of diversification to earning management in manufacturing companies listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange from 2012 until 2016. The sample used in this study consists of 106 companies operating in various industries, consumer goods industries, also basic and chemical industries sectors. The regression model used in this study is pooled least square. The results show that industrial diversification and the combination of industrial and geographical diversification have an effect to real earnings management, while geographical diversification have no effect to real earnings management.
