"Realitanya, manusia merupakan sebuah insan yang memiliki keragaman dalam diri. Keragaman ini menimbulkan adanya bentuk interaksi sehingga menciptakan sebuah peristiwa atau isu di dalam kehidupan sosial. Salah satunya adalah munculnya komunitas LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Biseksual, dan Transeksual) yang telah legal di Belanda. Pelegalan ini menimbulkan kebebasan dalam setiap aspek kehidupan masyarakat, salah satunya adalah dalam bidang periklanan. Penelitian ini akan mengkaji lebih spesifik tentang pasangan lesbian yang ditampilkan dalam sebuah tayangan iklan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana pasangan lesbian di Belanda direpresentasikan dalam iklan komersial. Penelitian ini akan menggunakan analisis semiotika John Fiske dengan teori codes of television yang dibagi menjadi tiga tingkatan yakni level realitas, level representasi dan level ideologi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pasangan lesbian di Belanda dapat direpresentasi melalui bentuk tingkatan interaksi yang tercipta. Selain itu, terdapat pula bentuk ‘gender role’ yang terlihat pada masing-masing individu perempuan yakni maskulinitas serta feminitas.

In reality, humans are human beings who have diversity within themselves. This diversity gives forms of events or issues in society, one of which is the appearance of LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transsexual) that are legalized in the Netherlands. This legalization creates freedom in every aspect of people's lives, one of which is in the field of advertising. This research will examine more specifically about lesbian couples who are featured in an advertisement. The purpose of this research was to find out how lesbian couples in the Netherlands are represented in commercial advertisements. This research will use John Fiske's semiotic analysis with the theory of codes of television, divided into three levels: the level of reality, the level of representation and the level of ideology. The results showed that lesbian couples in the Netherlands can be represented from the level of interaction that created. Furthermore, this research also found a form of gender roles in each woman figure called masculinity and femininity."

"Tema LGBT, khususnya gay atau boys love, marak diangkat untuk drama serta film Korea Selatan akhir-akhir ini. Beberapa di antaranya mengisahkan perjuangan kaum gay untuk bisa hidup bebas menunjukkan identitas mereka serta terhindar dari stigma negatif dan diskriminasi yang dilayangkan oleh masyarakat. Piteopaenui Kkum dipilih oleh penulis sebagai film yang mewakili representasi identitas kaum gay di Korea Selatan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk memaparkan representasi identitas gay dalam film Piteopaenui Kkum. Identitas kaum gay yang terdapat dalam film Piteopaenui Kkum diperoleh dengan menggunakan semiotika model John Fiske melalui metode analisis deskriptif. Penulis menganalisis para tokoh dalam film dengan menggunakan teori penokohan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa film pendek Piteopaenui Kkum merepresentasikan identitas kaum gay yang sulit mengekspresikan diri, mengalami perundungan secara fisik dan verbal, dan mendapat label stereotip yang cenderung buruk sehingga pada akhirnya kedua tokoh utama ini menyerah pada keadaan dengan mengorbankan hubungan mereka.

LGBT themes, especially gay or boys love, have been widely used in South Korean dramas and films recently. Some of them tell the story of the struggle of gay people to be able to live freely, show their identity and avoid negative stigma and discrimination posted by the community. Piteopaenui Kkum was chosen by the writer as a film that represents the representation of gay identity in South Korea. The purpose of this study is to describe the representation of gay identity in the film Piteopaenui Kkum. The identity of the gay people in the film Piteopaenui Kkum is obtained by using the semiotic model of John Fiske through descriptive analysis method. The author analyzes the characters in the film by using the theory of characterization. The results show that the short film Piteopaenui Kkum represents the identity of gay people who find it difficult to express themselves, experience physical and verbal abuse, and get stereotyped labels that tend to be bad so that in the end these two main characters give up on the situation at the expense of their relationship."

"Film merupakan sebuah media komunikasi massa yang menampilkan cerita dalam bentuk audio visual. Mulan (2020) merupakan film hasil karya Disney yang diadaptasi dari cerita rakyat Cina. Film Mulan (2020) mengisahkan perjuangan seorang perempuan bernama Hua Mulan yang harus menyamar sebagai laki-laki untuk menggantikan posisi ayahnya dalam berperang melawan suku Rouran. Sebagai seorang perempuan yang menyamar menjadi laki-laki, banyak tantangan yang harus dihadapi oleh Mulan. Penolakan yang didapat Mulan setelah menunjukkan identitas dirinya sebagai seorang perempuan di dalam pasukan mencerminkan adanya konsep patriarki. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menunjukkan konsep patriarki di Cina dalam film Mulan (2020) dan untuk menunjukkan sejauh mana kesesuaian interpretasi sineas barat terhadap konsep patriarki di Cina dalam film Mulan (2020). Penelitian ini menggunakan teknik analisis semiotika John Fiske. Semiotika adalah cabang ilmu yang berhubungan dengan tanda-tanda. Melalui teknik analisis The Code of Television dari John Fiske yang terdiri dari level realitas, level representasi dan level ideologi, ditemukan tiga variabel patriarki menurut Kamla Bhasin yang paling menonjol dalam film yaitu kontrol atas tenaga kerja perempuan, kontrol atas seksualitas perempuan dan kontrol atas gerak perempuan. Hasil penelitian juga menunjukkan adanya kesesuaian interpretasi sineas barat (Disney) terhadap konsep patriarki di Cina.

Film is a medium of mass communication that shows stories in audio visual form. Mulan (2020) is a Disney film that is adapted from the Chinese Folk Tales. Mulan (2020) tell the story about the struggle of a woman named Hua Mulan who must disguise as a man to replace her father's position in the war against the Rouran tribe. As a woman who is disguised as a man, many challenges has to face by Mulan. The rejection that Mulan received after show her identity as a woman in the army reflects the concept of patriarchy. This study aims to show the patriarchy concept in China in Mulan (2020) and to show how far suitability of western filmmaker interpretation of the concept of patriarchy in China in the Mulan movie (2020). This study uses the semiotic analysis technique of John Fiske. Semiotics is a branch of science that associated with signs. Through the analysis technique The Code of Television by John Fiske which consist of levels of reality, level of representation and level of ideology, three patriarchy variables according to Kamla Bhasin's which most prominent were found in the film is control of women's labour power, control of women's sexuality and control of women's mobility. The results of the study also show that there is a suitability of the interpretation of western filmmaker (Disney) with the concept of patriarchy in China."

"Haenyeo adalah penyelam perempuan yang berasal dari Pulau Jeju, Korea Selatan. Mereka bekerja menyelam lautan dengan menahan napas untuk mengumpulkan berbagai hasil laut. Sebagai salah satu bagian dari Pulau Jeju yang memperlihatkan keunikan budayanya, terdapat berbagai karya sastra yang mengangkat tema tentang haenyeo. Salah satu contohnya adalah drama yang berjudul Urideurui Beulluseu (Our Blues). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menelaah representasi kehidupan haenyeo melalui isu-isu yang terlihat pada kisah haenyeo dalam drama Our Blues. Dalam penelitian ini, penulis menggunakan teori semiotika John Fiske dengan metode penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa representasi kehidupan haenyeo dalam drama Our Blues terlihat melalui isu modernisasi, budaya kolektif, homogenitas, hierarki, dan individualisme. Isu modernisasi memperlihatkan dampak positif dan negatif dari modernisasi terhadap haenyeo. Sementara itu, budaya kolektif dan homogenitas pada kisah haenyeo memperlihatkan nilai dan aturan yang ada dalam komunitas haenyeo. Kisah haenyeo juga memperlihatkan isu hierarki melalui tokoh Chun-Hui sebagai seorang sanggun haenyeo yang dihormati oleh haenyeo lainnya. Di sisi lain, tokoh Yeong-Ok memperlihatkan isu individualisme dari sikapnya yang tidak mengikuti aturan dan hanya berfokus pada dirinya sendiri.

Haenyeo is a female diver who originated from Jeju Island, South Korea. They work by diving into the ocean by holding their breath to collect various seafood. As part of Jeju Island which shows its unique culture, several literary works brought a theme about haenyeo. One of the examples is a drama called Urideurui Beulluseu (Our Blues). This research aims to analyze the representation of haenyeo’s life in the Korean drama Our Blues through issues that seen in haenyeo’s story in the Our Blues drama. In this research, the author used John Fiske’s semiotic theory with qualitative descriptive research methods. The result of this research shows that the representation of haenyeo’s life in Our Blues drama seen through the issues of modernization, collectivist culture, homogeneity, hierarchy, and individualism. The modernization issue shows the positive and negative impact of modernization on haenyeo. Meanwhile, collectivist culture and homogeneity in the haenyeo’s story show the value and rules in the haenyeo community. The haenyeo’s story also shows the hierarchy issue from the figure of Chun-Hui as a sanggun haenyeo who is respected by other haenyeo. On the other hand, the figure of Yeong-Ok shows the individualism issue from her attitude that doesn’t follow the rules and only focus on herself."
