"Kopi Priangan pernah mencapai puncak pada abad 17-18. Pada abad ke-19 komoditas kopi mengalami penurunan karena beberapa faktor, tetapi salah satu yang paling besar adalah serangan dari hama hemileia vasatrix pada beberapa tanaman kopi arabika sehingga melumpuhkan varietas kopi arabika di Jawa. Kota Bandung memiliki perkembangan yang pesat terlihat dari infrastruktur dan pengaruh dari Eropa yang cukup pesat. Hal ini dinilai mendukung usaha kopi yang mulai bermunculan di kota Bandung sehingga melahirkan sebuah pertanyaan penelitian apa dampak perkembangan kota Bandung terhadap kemunculan usaha kopi pada awal abad ke-20. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode sejarah dari Kuntowijoyo. Perkembangan kota Bandung yang pesat dalam hal ini seperti pembangunan stasiun, munculnya Pasar Baru, dan terpaparnya kota Bandung dengan gaya hidup Eropa mendukung usaha kopi terbentuk dalam bentuk pabrik dan kedai kopi.
