ABSTRAKA micro optical branching circuit [MOBC] array by the use of planar micro lens array and a cubical beam splitter was proposed in a previous study. To study further the performance of the elements of the branching array, the constructed circuit has been implemented by modulating three optical signals on different wave lengths of carrier waves transmitted by LD optical sources. The measurement on coupling efficiency gives a value of 36,4 % which is uniform for the three channels of the branching circuit. The branching circuit also shows a negligible cross-talk on the branched signals. It is summarized that the proposed MOBC implemented by modulated signals can be used in practice. The insertion loss could be reduced by appropriate positioning of each elements to achieve optimum focusing and collimating beams.

"An experiment demonstrating the principle of mode recognition has been performed. In the experiment, a He-Ne laser with phase synchronized TEMo1 mode is used. This laser has two stable (bistable) states corresponding to be emission of a right- and left- hand helical waves. Injection of light of one state can switch the laser emission to this state. A hologram is used to convert an image to the state of the laser and in turn irradiation of the image into the hologram produces radiation corresponding to the state. Injection of this radiation into a second laser causes the laser switch to the respective state and remain in that state. A second hologram convert the laser states into two images and using the second hologram, the two images can be recognized, distinguished and stored."

"A design of novel optical power divider with tapered coupled wave-guide structure is proposed. The structure of optical power divider is directional coupler, which consists of parallel tapered wave-guide. The device was designed and its feature was simulated by the beam propagation method (BPM). Unique power coupling characteristics are demonstrated. A special case of a 1 x 3 Optical Power Divider has been designed. Simulation of the output power distribution at a wavelength of 1.31 μm shows the discretionary splitting ratio 0.32: 0.33: 0.35 for interaction length longer than 3 mm."

ABSTRACTIn optical communication system, optical star coupler devices are important for distributing optical signal from one incoming fiber into several outgoing fibers. In this research, an investigation on the design of optical fiber star coupler has been carried out by the use of simple way. Utilizing the cone-shaped end face of several fibers as receivers, optical star coupler has been constructed without using any optical element .An experiment to examine the efficiency of coupling light power from an incoming fiber to seven outgoing fibers has been excetited. The measurement shows that each sample of set outgoing fibers receives an equal amount of light power, which means that the individual coupling efficiency of respective outgoing fibers is equal. Therefore, it is concluded that the proposed star coupler is applicable to be utilized for distributing a light signal to several output terminals."
