"Tugas akhir ini akan mengevaluasi kelayakan beberapa perangkat router yang dibangun dari sebuah PC (Personal Computer) yang dipasangi sistem operasi serba guna GNU/Linux. Perangkat yang dievaluasi bervariasi mulai dari workstation berbasis prosesor Intel 486 DX 100 Mhz, Intel Pentium 200 Mhz, dan server dengan prosesor Intel Pentium Pro 150 MHz.Penelitian ini menggunakan metoda eksplorasi sederhana, yaitu langkah-langkah percobaan ditentukan berdasarkan hasil percobaan sebelumnya. Evaluasi kelayakan perangkat router difokuskan pada throughput, yaitu kapasitas yang dapat dikirim router dalam satuan byte atau paket per satuan waktu.Dari penelitian yang dilakukan dapat disimpulkan bahwa ketiga perangkat yang dievaluasi tersebut dapat digunakan sebagai router. Adapun sebuah sistem 486 DX 100 mampu menghasilkan throughput 50 Mbps / 488 pps, sistem Pentium 200 Mhz menghasilkan throughput hingga 200 Mbps / 2000 pps, dan sistem Pentium Pro 150 Mhz menghasilkan throughput hingga 300 Mbps / 5000 pps.
