"The selection of materials for an engineering component is not only requested by its design function and shape, but alsothe sequence through which it is manufactured. The manufacturing operation of roller chains involves drawing andtrimming processes aimed at producing semi-finished chain drives component with a well-standardized dimension. Inaddition to final combination of properties required by design constraints, the ability of materials to be formed into adesired shape and geometry without failure is also critical. The objective of materials selection should therefore involveadditional attributes that are not typically accommodated by the standard procedure of materials selection. The presentpaper deals with the selection of materials for roller chains from the perspective of manufacturing process. Ears andun-uniform wall thickness have been identified as a key problem in the mass production of component. Provided allprocess parameters were established, the anisotropy factor of materials is critical. Simulative test can be reasonablyused to obtain material performance indices that can be added up to the standard procedure of material selection. Ofthree commercially available steel grades evaluated with regard to the criteria defined, one grade is more suitable for thepresent objective."

"ABSTRAKPenggunaan bahan ajar yang tepat akan memudahkan proses belajarsehingga tujuan pemelajaran dapat dicapai. Penggunaan bahan ajar harus melaluiproses pemilihan dan penyesuaian bahan ajar. Tesis ini melaporkan hasil studikasus terhadap dua kelas pengajaran bahasa Inggris dan bertujuan untukmenyelidiki proses pemilihan dan penyesuaian bahan ajar yang dilakukan olehpengajar serta persepsi pelajar terhadap penggunaan bahan ajar oleh pengajar,khususnya dalam pengajaran kemahiran membaca. Selain itu, faktor pengalamanmengajar pengajar juga dijadikan sebagai salah satu variabel dalam penelitian ini.Berdasarkan hasil analisis data ditemukan bahwa dalam pemilihan bahan ajar,pengajar pemula dan pengajar berpengalaman menjadikan faktor kesesuaiandengan materi pokok dan kemahiran bahasa pelajar sebagai kriteria utama dalammemilih bahan ajar untuk pengajaran kemahiran membaca. Dalam penyesuaianbahan ajar, kedua pengajar mengaku bahwa kemahiran bahasa pelajar jugamenjadi faktor yang paling sering menyebabkan diperlukannya penyesuaianbahan ajar. Dalam penelitian itu terlihat bahwa pengalaman mengajar memberikankematangan emosional kepada pengajar sehingga mereka menjadi ahli dalammengelola kelas. Sementara itu, ditemukan juga bahwa secara umum pelajar dikedua kelas yang menjadi objek penelitian memiliki persepsi positif terhadappenggunaan bahan ajar oleh pengajar pemula dan pengajar berpengalaman.

ABSTRACTDecent use of materials will lead to a successful learning process and viceversa. Thus, teachers are required to first select the best material and then adapt itbased on the learners’ specific needs and learning context. This thesis reports on acase study that investigates the process of selecting and adapting learningmaterials by both novice and experienced teachers in the teaching of reading, aswell as learners’ perception toward teachers’ use of learning materials. Thefindings show that in the materials selection process, novice and experiencedteacher concluded that the compatibality to the curriculum and learners’ languageproficiency are the most important criteria in selecting reading materials. In thematerials adaptation process, both teachers agreed that learners’ languagepoficiency was the factor that most often make an adaptation process required.The findings show that in this research, teaching experience affects teachers’performance in the way that it give teachers emotional intelligence to manage andcontrol the class well. Furthermore, the data from learners show that generally alllearners in both classes have positive perception toward teachers’ use of readingmaterials."
